FDP Statement on Pence’s Return to Florida Monday
After Florida broke another grim record for single-day COVID-19 deaths today, Vice President Mike Pence announced that he is returning to Florida on Monday in an attempt to spin the Trump Administration’s failed coronavirus response. Last time he was in Florida for a public appearance, Pence misrepresented the state of the COVID-19 outbreak so severely that one prominent medical expert referred to it as “obvious propaganda.”
In response, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement:
“We know what happens when Mike Pence comes to town — he smiles for the camera, makes empty promises on behalf of the Trump administration, and then jets off to his next photo-op. 143,000 Americans have died on Donald Trump’s watch, and no amount of spin from his lackeys can make up for their gross incompetence in handling the pandemic. We don’t need another flowery speech, we need real leadership and a commitment to prioritizing public health over Trump’s re-election campaign.”
Earlier this month, Mike Pence flouted CDC recommendations and Jacksonville’s mask order at a private event with the RNC Host Committee.
Florida Democratic Party Statement on Trump Cancelling RNC in Jacksonville
In response to the news that Donald Trump said he’s cancelling the RNC in Jacksonville, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement:
“I’m glad Donald Trump took his head out of the sand long enough to realize what a predictable, preventable disaster he was about to inflict on the city of Jacksonville. His ego-driven political stunt has wasted precious time and resources during a pandemic, and Floridians will remember his reckless leadership in November.”
