In two days, Democrats could take the first step toward ending absolute Republican control of their longtime stronghold of Texas – but right-wing cash is pouring in to stop that from happening.
As things stand, we’re just one seat away from breaking the Republican supermajority in the Texas Senate, where GOP legislators have spent decades attacking their constituents’ health care, voting rights, reproductive rights, and more.
Now, a must-win seat in that chamber is up for grabs in a special election this Tuesday – but the most recent reports show thousands of dollars in late GOP spending to flip this seat and push the gains we need out of reach.
It’s critical that we meet this challenge head-on and keep gaining ground in states like Texas. This is our chance to move our progressive vision forward everywhere, and we must seize the moment.
As big as this is, it’s about more than just Texas.
Tuesday’s race is one of the last special elections before the whole country votes this November. We already flipped a Trump- and McConnell-won seat in Kentucky a few weeks ago, plus others in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Adding a big win in Texas would put the whole country on notice that we’re gearing up to topple Republican majorities everywhere this fall. With everything that’s at stake, we can’t afford to let an opportunity like that slip away.
