This Week’s Featured Action
Thursday, July 9, 8–9 pm
Reclaim Our Vote has launched “Voting in Troubled Times,” a five-part webinar series developed as the result of wide concern for community of color voters who face converging challenges from COVID-19 and expanding attacks on voting. In Part 2: The Moral Imperative, national leaders explain how the threats to our democracy affect the fabric of our communities and how faith-based groups are reframing challenges.

Actions You Can Take This Week

“I don’t like talking on the phone.”
“I don’t pickup my own phone if I don’t know who’s calling.
Why would I want to call other people?”
Because it isn’t about you.
It’s about educating voters about new vote-by-mail laws, crucial to ensuring that everyone can vote safely. It’s about recruiting poll workers so that polling locations are numerous and well-staffed in states that routinely close or move locations. It’s about letting people know they may have been purged from the voter rolls and helping them re-register in time to vote.
And, yes, it’s about calling for candidates—candidates who could flip a seat in the Pennsylvania legislature by the smallest of margins and fight for all of the things we believe in. Every vote we turn out for a Democratic candidate in Pennsylvania will have an impact all the way to the top of the ticket.
Education. Registration. Flipping red to blue.

Mainers Need to Return Their Ballots!
On Tuesday, July 7, starting at 1pm, the DNC will be texting Maine voters asking them to return their absentee ballots. And they need volunteers! They use Hustle to text and Slack for communication and support.
Sign up HERE, and they’ll email you all the details you need to get ready to text with them. They generally cap the number of texters that can sign up for a shift, so don’t wait!

Pledge to Vote and Do More
This campaign is an excellent investment of YOUR time.
Reclaim Our Vote is working with the North Carolina NAACP to transform voters into activists and organizers. The postcard message asks people to pledge to vote in November AND share this message with 5 other people they know.
MoveOn recently cited studies indicating that the social technique of being asked to vote by people you know (called “vote Tripling”) is far more effective than being asked to vote by strangers.

Training Opportunities:
Are You Ready to Roll?
As primaries end in many states, we need to gear up for work that will help protect voting rights, register voters, and get the voters educated. Check out upcoming trainings for phone banking here and texting here.

August is the month to jump into Election 2020! Lean Left will have multiple trainings, webinars, Q&A’s, Resistance Cafes, and other online events throughout the month. We all need to hit the ground running in September.

As we watch the Republicans’ boldfaced attacks on the right to vote, as just seen in Georgia, Wisconsin, and Kentucky, voter protection organizations and our candidates need our support now more than ever.
