Demand online voter registration nationwide

The COVID-19 crisis is shutting down DMVs, local election offices, and other in-person voter registration hubs nationwide — and if states don’t respond, this pandemic could prevent countless new voters from making themselves heard in November.

That’s why ALL states must offer online voter registration — a powerful, secure, and proven solution — and enable eligible Americans to safely register to vote (or update their registration) from home.

We’re just months away from one of the most anticipated elections of our generation — but nationwide, potential new voters are having trouble adding their name to the voter rolls.

In order to protect public health during the COVID-19 crisis, many voter registration hotspots — like DMVs and town clerks’ offices — have been closed for months. And canvassing efforts on college campuses, at concerts, and on streets have been completely shut down, too.

So how can states combat this threat to our voting rights? By offering online voter registration.

Online voter registration is a proven and secure way to modernize our voter registration systems. By letting eligible Americans register to vote from home, states can empower them to get on the voter rolls and make themselves heard in our democracy — despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus.

Plus, online voter registration is safe — and it saves those states that have implemented it money. But this crucial option still isn’t available in several states, impacting tens of millions of Americans.

Experts say the loss of in-person registration opportunities this year will especially keep students, people of color, and naturalized immigrants from the polls. Online voter registration can help — but states must act NOW to have this option ready for November.

Add your name to tell state legislators and election officials: it’s time to modernize election systems nationwide with online voter registration.
