Impeachment Trial Exposed As Illegitimate Sham After GOP Blocked Incriminating Evidence, Nullifying Any So-Called Acquittal

Senate Republicans have promised to acquit Donald Trump as quickly as possible after he was impeached for using military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election.

However, any acquittal is meaningless now because their actions have exposed the whole trial as illegitimate.

There are two main reasons Trump’s impeachment trial is a sham:

  1. The White House and Senate Republicans are blocking incriminating evidence from being entered into the record. Senate Republicans voted to block a firsthand witness, former National Security Advisor John Bolton, from testifying. The administration confirmed they are blocking dozens of emails detailing Trump’s role in holding up the aid to Ukraine.
  2. Senate Republicans—like Lamar Alexander and Rob Portman—have admitted that Donald Trump is, in fact, guilty as charged.

Legitimate trials allow firsthand witnesses with incriminating evidence to testify—like the previous 15 impeachment trials brought before the Senate.

Legitimate trials convict the defendant when the jury knows they’re guilty.

Any acquittal from an illegitimate trial isn’t an exoneration. It’s a cover-up.

That’s why protesters will take to the streets in hundreds of cities and towns across the country on Wednesday at 5:30 PM local time to “Reject The Cover-Up”. Folks can find the nearest protest at RejectTheCoverUp.org.

The American people will make it clear to the White House and Senate that nobody should be above the law—not even a president of the United States.

Impeachment HQ is a new rapid response project that serves as a resource to talkers, reporters, and activists on the impeachment proceedings.

The new project is a joint effort from Defend the Republic, a messaging and strategic communications project focused on holding the Trump Administration accountable, and Stand Up America, one of the country’s largest grassroots advocacy organizations and a key group driving grassroots action on impeachment.

The project is led by Zac Petkanas, who was previously the Director of Rapid Response for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, Communications Director to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Senior Adviser to the Democratic National Committee.

The project is also supported by communicators, campaigners, and researchers from both Defend the Republic and Stand Up America—including Ryan Thomas, the Press Secretary for Stand Up America, who leads the communications team.
