We can’t lose

Voting has begun. Finally, after months of noise and stasis, the pollsters and pundits are forced to admit their irrelevance. It’s too close to call, they say. It will all come down to turnout. The side with the better ground game will win.

We’ve known that all along, haven’t we? Because when they say “turnout,” “ground game,” “getting voters to the polls,” they’re talking about us—Indivisible, and Swing Left, and Vote Save America, and hundreds of other organizations, millions of citizens, the largest mobilization of political volunteers in US history. It doesn’t show up in the polls or prognostications. But we have it, they don’t.

So as we enter the final days of this election season, let’s remind ourselves of what’s at stake, why we’re here, the gains we can’t afford to lose.

We can’t lose the progress we’ve made clawing back reproductive rights since the Dobbs decision.

We can’t lose Social Security and Medicare funding to pay for another fat-cat tax cut.

We can’t lose the Affordable Care Act or $35 insulin. Or the climate gains and jobs created by the Inflation Reduction Act. Or our relationships with Europe and NATO. Or our freedom to read books; to gather in public places without being shot; to love whom we love and be who we are.

We can’t lose the peaceful transfer of power, or our freedom to vote in fair and honest elections.

It’s time now to tune out the polls and pundits and turn out the voters. So please, look below and find a way to do a little more in these final two weeks. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned in the past eight years, it’s this:

When we knock the doors, make the calls, talk to our friends and family—when we do the work—

We can’t lose.

Here’s how we’ll win

Canvassing

After all this time, we still focus on making it easy for first-timers. We’ll give you all the training you need; we’ll pair you with an experienced partner; we’ll even get you a ride! (Indivisible Chicago-hosted canvasses are indicated by an asterisk*.)

➔ More options from our partners: Join WisDems for special Last Weekend canvasses every day until Tuesday November 5. Join the Working Families Party for canvassing in Milwaukee Saturday-Tuesday November 2-5

➔ Look here for our complete schedule of canvassing trips, including those hosted by our partners. Look here for many more canvassing opportunities from WisDems.

Phone banking

Never phone banked before? We’ve got you covered. Indivisible Chicago phone banks (indicated by *) attract volunteers from coast to coast because we focus on welcoming first-timers and giving them everything they need to succeed: thorough training, complete background resources, and one-on-one support.

➔ *Sign up here for Michigan phone banks on Monday

➔ Join our partners for Michigan’s One Campaign get-out-the-vote phone banks every day through Tuesday November 5. (Note: callers who signed up for the previously scheduled November 4 Indivisible Chicago Michigan Monday Phone Bank will be sent a link to sign up for the November 4 One Campaign phone bank.)

➔ Join our partners for WisDems get-out-the-vote phone banks on Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday-Tuesday November 4-5.

Voter registration/protection

Our partners at Rust Belt Rising are running voter registration phone banks for both our target states through November 4: Wisconsin on Mondays and Saturdays, Michigan on Thursdays and Fridays. This is a popular and very effective program that mails packets to voters whose registration may need updating. Phone bankers call them to follow up and offer assistance.

➔ Sign up here to call voters in Wisconsin Monday 6-8

New opportunities will appear on the Indivisible Chicago Action Calendar. Check it often!

The Internet may be free
. . . but web hosting, software, and ISPs sure aren’t. Though we’re all volunteers here at Indivisible Chicago—none of earns a dime—we do have expenses to cover. So if you can, please throw a few bucks into our bucket. You can donate right here right now!
