Helloooooo Kamala Harris!
“There was this sense of joy and hope and optimism…it felt like something new.” —Ben Wikler, Chair, Wisconsin Democrats “It’s fun to watch Democrats have fun. They haven’t had fun in a long time.” —Ezra Klein, New York Times
We’re seeing Vice President Kamala Harris in a whole new light and we like what we see. We LOVE the energy she brings. Her poll numbers are rising and so is our enthusiasm. She’s got the experience, the character, and the progressive policies to meet this moment.
It doesn’t hurt that the other team seems to be imploding. In one of the most monumental political weeks in our country’s history, our VP has soared to earn widespread respect as an exciting choice for president. In the same week, Trump’s disastrous VP pick, JD Vance, has plummeted from the glory of his party’s convention to the butt of national jokes. Along the way he’s earned the scorn of women from both parties as they learn of his support for policies that would punish interstate travel for abortions while bestowing tax breaks and even additional votes on those who have children.
Weird stuff, right?
So weird that even the conservative Wall Street Journal suggests Vance “doesn’t really respect people who make different life choices.” At the same time, Trump seems so rattled he’s saying the very most quiet parts out loud, begging Christian voters at a weekend rally to vote “just this time” because, he promised, “in four years, you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not going to have to vote.”
Even weirder. And ominous. As a former prosecutor, Kamala Harris tells us she knows Trump’s type. As Americans who lived through his chaos and corruption for four years, so do we. We can’t go back. And we won’t, as long as we do the work.
So as we dance and laugh and revel in the possibilities, let’s not get carried away. The road ahead is still a rough one. We counted on President Biden and he came through for us in many ways. Now we are counting on Kamala Harris, and she is counting on us. She’s often teased about her penchant for Venn diagrams. Here’s one we should all keep in mind.

Where hope and fear intersect, that’s where we must live for the next hundred days. Rejoice in the possibilities … and then get back to the hard work that lies ahead. Here’s how:
