Friends,

The Ohio Scoop is your political fix, filled with the most up-to-date information about Ohio Democrats and everything happening on the campaign trail here in Ohio. We’re here so you can get your political scoop, all in one place.

If you’re new to the list, welcome. You were added because you are one of Ohio Democrats’ best supporters. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.

We need to fill you in on everything that happened, so let’s jump right in.

Solar Eclipse

On Monday, many parts of the state will be shrouded in darkness. Now, you may see the darkness and think, “Oh my god. It’s the repeated years of a Republican supermajority finally coming to get us!!!!” Don’t panic! The GOP rule of this state has done plenty to send us backwards. But in this instance, the darkness will be because of the solar eclipse

This is the last Eclipse that will be visible in Ohio until 2099, so make a plan to watch and be sure to have your solar eclipse glasses ready! 😎

The Girls are Fighting!!

It’s been two and a half weeks since the March primary when now Senate President Matt Huffman won his primary election guaranteeing he will be a member of the House beginning in 2025.

Now, a not-so-secret battle between Huffman and current Speaker of the House Stevens is coming to light because Huffman is coming for Steven’s job. Unsurprisingly, the two aren’t super fond of each other. When asked about Huffman’s challenge Stevens replied, “It would be better of the Senate pres. would pay attention to running the Senate instead of trying to run the House.”

We’d love if both chambers in the Statehouse would focus on passing meaningful bills that have a positive impact on Ohioans. But that’s just us.

Until Next Time

2023 was a monumental and hopeful chapter of Ohio’s story that deserves much celebration. But it’s time to turn our focus to 2024. Redistricting and wage are on the line. Control of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House will undoubtedly run through Ohio in 2024. Ohio will also be the only state in the nation with an opportunity to gain control of the state Supreme Court. With two statewide wins under our belt, Ohio Dems are ready to win – again. Consider chipping in to help us win in 2024 and beyond!

If you’re unsure about how much more you can contribute, simply reply to this email. We’d be happy to help.

As always, thank you for standing with us. I am immensely grateful for your partnership.

Onward,

Emily Feltz
Finance Director, Ohio Democrats
