Bernie the Lemon

6 mins read

Friends,

The Ohio Scoop is your political fix, filled with the most up-to-date information about Ohio Democrats and everything happening on the campaign trail here in Ohio. We’re here so you can get your political scoop, all in one place.

If you’re new to the list, welcome. You were added because you are one of Ohio Democrats’ best supporters. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.

We need to fill you in on everything that happened, so let’s jump right in.

Bernie the Lemon

Well folks, following a brutal and messy primary, Bernie Moreno has come out at the top of the pack of losers and will officially face off with Senator Sherrod Brown in November. Millionaire Moreno has come out of the primary bruised and bloodied, and certainly not ready to face our premier champion for the working class, Senator Brown.

The primary brought up plenty of Moreno’s shady business dealings, poor treatment of employees and questions about his overall character. Even Republicans don’t trust the guy.

As a used car salesman, we’re sure Bernie is well acquainted with lemons, and it’s only a matter of time before Ohioans find out that Moreno is a lemon himself.

And let’s not forget that Moreno has described himself as “100% pro-life no exceptions,” on the campaign trail.

Losing Twice in One Primary?

On primary night we saw a series of wins and losses, none quite as satisfying as the loss of Loser LaRose in the Senate primary.

Three major losses in under a year isn’t the best track record, Frank. At least now LaRose can go back to focusing on his job and maybe his office won’t make numerous mistakes in the upcoming November election.

Down in OH-2, MAGA candidate Derek Myers sent out a concession email and video at 3:19pm, about 4 hours before polls closed for the night.

I mean, who hasn’t sent an incorrect email once or twice? Last week we accidentally sent out The Scoop with a subject line reading “Subject” This is totally the same thing, right? Our bad.

Myers recanted on his concession and then proceeded to finish in 11th place of an 11 person primary. What’s that old saying? When you know, you know.

But let’s not focus on the losses, and turn our heads to the wins!

Democrats across the state were victorious in their primary elections. There’s so much at stake in 2024 and we’re confident we have the best possible candidates to win up and down the ticket this year. We’re grateful to everyone who stepped up to run in a primary election and we look forward to working together towards victory in November!

Build the Bench

In 2024, Ohio is the only state in the country that has the opportunity to flip the Supreme Court. We are excited to have three excellent candidates, Justice Melody StewartJustice Michael Donnelly, and Judge Lisa Forbes running to protect democracy.

With so much at stake in 2024, we need all hands on deck to defend our democracy. We hope you are with us. To learn more about how you can help flip the court, visit our website.

Until Next Time

2023 was a monumental and hopeful chapter of Ohio’s story that deserves much celebration. But it’s time to turn our focus to 2024. Redistricting and wage are on the line. Control of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House will undoubtedly run through Ohio in 2024. Ohio will also be the only state in the nation with an opportunity to gain control of the state Supreme Court. With two statewide wins under our belt, Ohio Dems are ready to win – again. Consider chipping in to help us win in 2024 and beyond!

If you’re unsure about how much more you can contribute, simply reply to this email. We’d be happy to help.

As always, thank you for standing with us. I am immensely grateful for your partnership.

Onward,

Emily Feltz
Finance Director, Ohio Democrats
