Conservative Chaos from Washington DC to Calhoun St.
The past few weeks have shown on full display the results of electing extreme conservatives who aren’t serious about governing. From Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s vote to plunge American Democracy into chaos, to the Charleston County School Board suspending educators who don’t share their extreme Trump-ist views, the Lowcountry has become all-to familiar with conservative elected officials who seek attention for breaking government rather than making it work for us.
Make no mistake, Rep. Mace’s vote makes a government shutdown all-but certain in the coming weeks because the message she sent by joining with the most extreme Republicans is that compromise, moderation, and pragmatism will not be tolerated within the Republican Party.
Everyone in Charleston County should be extremely clear that Democrats, progressives, center-left, and common sense moderate candidates throughout Charleston County are working against these forces of chaos and are committed to making government work for all Charleston County residents. We are proud to support alternatives to these extremist conservatives by running candidates such as Michael Moore and Mac Deford against Rep. Mace in 2024, and we are grateful for school board members Courtney Waters, Daron Lee Calhoun, Darlene Dunmeyer-Roberson, and Carol Tempel who are fighting hard for high-quality public education in Charleston County.

Senate District 42 Special Election Update
We are grateful to all the Democrats who participated in the Democratic Primary and Runoff for the Special Election in Senate District 42. State Representatives JA Moore, Wendell Gilliard, and Deon Tedder all ran exceptional races and made us all proud. In the end, Mr. Tedder won the Democratic Runoff by 11 votes (a lesson in why every vote matters!) and will be our Democratic Nominee in the Special Election on November 7. Congratulations to Rep. Tedder!
We are particularly grateful for all the Democrats who voted in both the primary and runoff, and those who volunteered to make over 1,000 calls to let other Democrats know about the special off-year election. Before he can become our next State Senator, Representative Tedder needs to win the General Election against a Republican this November 7th, so please sign up to volunteer to help this critical seat remain in Democratic hands!

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!
The Democratic Party is proud to be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and we are even more proud of our role as the party who promotes an inclusive and expanding vision of America. As a big-tent party, we welcome and celebrate the many different people and cultures who make up the America we love. See below for some of the Biden Administration’s top accomplishments that benefit the Hispanic community in America.

Upcoming Elections – November 7 & November 21
There are elections coming up! Although the Charleston County Democratic Party does not take positions in non-partisan elections, we strongly encourage participation and voters becoming informed about the candidates who seek to represent them in non-partisan municipal offices.
There will be municipal election in most Charleston County cities and towns Tuesday November 7 (and runoffs Tuesday November 21, if necessary).
Additionally, the Special Election for State Senate District 42 will be held concurrently with the municipal races on November 7. We will organize volunteers, support turnout, and advocate on behalf of our nominee, Deon Tedder. Check your registration, confirm your polling location, and view your sample ballot at SCvotes.org!
