June 15 is Blue Thursday

Blue Beginning

Our sanctuary summer

Chicago is scrambling to care for thousands of asylum seekers sent here without notice by the shameless Texas governor Greg Abbott. As Mayor Johnson gets up to speed and the City Council settles in, our welcome so far has relied heavily on volunteers and community groups. Is our Sanctuary City meeting the moment? What else needs to be done? What can Indivisibles do to help?

Thursday evening at the Hideout, we’ll chew on these questions and more with Madison Savedra, who’s been covering the story for Block Club Chicago, and Juan-Antonio Montesinos, a leader of the Chicago Volunteer Police Station Response Team. It’s sure to be a timely and enlightening discussion.

Blue Thursday is our monthly political mixer at the coolest bar in town. We reconnect, have a beverage, and hear from smart people about important things. All are welcome and admission is free, but please sign up here so we know to expect you.

Doors at 5 PM, program at 6. If you can’t join us in person, watch the live stream at facebook.com/IndivisibleChi, or catch the broadcast Saturday on WCPT 820, Chicago’s Progressive Talk.

The phone banks are open!

If we learned anything from our recent successes in the Chicago mayoral and Wisconsin Supreme Court races, it’s that ground game matters most. When we mobilize, no amount of money or mudslinging can beat us.

Another thing we know is that in Wisconsin, every state assembly seat counts. Eventually we will dislodge the cynical, unscrupulous Republican majority in the state house, but we’ll have to do it one seat at a time.

Next month brings a chance to make some progress: a special election to fill a recently vacated seat in Wisconsin’s 24th district. Our friends at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin are asking for our help in electing Bob Tatterson to this seat. They will host phone banks on a statewide Day of Action, June 24, and on election day, July 18. Sign up on the WisDems Call Team Resource Hub. There you’ll also find an OpenVPB link you can use to call on your own schedule. This will be a low, low-turnout election—just the kind we can win with a few hours work. Let’s do it!
