LET’S TALK POLITICS

Will Hawaii be Ground Zero if the
US Goes to War with China?

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Zoom Call – Registration is Required

The United States has never fought a war with another country inside its own borders. Yet today we are closer to World War III than at any point since Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Is Hawaii in the line of fire? What happened to 70 years of peace in Asia? How did Taiwan become a flash point? What are we getting wrong? How can the “Free World” co-exist with a China that believes the state has power over the individual?

For a look at possible answers to these questions and to discuss their implications for Hawaii and the US, join the Indivisibles of Hawaii’s revival of its occasional “Let’s Talk Politics” series at noon on Monday, March 27

The session will be led by Jay Henderson of the Hawaii Indivisibles. Henderson ran communications for the Taiwan Defense Command in the Vietnam Era, speaks Chinese, studied at Taiwan Normal U, worked for the National Committee on US-China Relations in New York, lived 15 years in Hong Kong while opening China for American universities, and ran the Voice of America’s broadcasts to China for 15 years. He retired from VOA in 2010 and returned to live in Hawaii where he went to graduate school at UH in the 1970s as an East-West Center grantee.
