How to spot a BANANA REPUBLICAN

“… the Banana Republican Party.” – Jamie Raskin
What is a banana republic? How do you spot a banana Republican? How is the GOP changing America into a banana republic? Check these twelve symptoms and decide for yourself.
What is a Banana Republic?
“A banana republic is a corrupt, self-serving dictatorship that solicits and takes bribes from corporations for the right to exploit resources. Banana republics consist of a small ruling-class of business, politicians and a large impoverished working-class. Oligarchs of the ruling-class exploit the labors of the working class and control the economy.” – Abstracted from Thought Co.
“Georgia goes from being the ‘Peach State’ to a Banana Republic. Republican legislators in Georgia are passing a law setting conditions to remove an elected prosecutor like Fanni Willis who is likely to indict many of the legislators voting for that law.” – Keith DB

Georgia goes from being the ‘Peach State’ to a Banana Republic
“Republican legislators in Georgia are passing a law setting conditions to remove an elected by the people prosecutor who is likely to indict many of the legislators voting for that law.
The Georgia law has one other significant provision. Currently Georgia prosecutors can be subject to a recall vote if a petition to do so gathers signatures from 30% of the voters in their district. This bill would reduce that over 93% to just 2%. The clear intent is to intimidate prosecutors with the risk of a recall election if even an ultra-super minority of voters seek one. Fani Willis overwhelmingly won her election with 72% of the vote. But if just 7% of the few that voted against her sign a recall petition, she would be subject to a recall vote.
Notably, this massive reduction in the recall threshold applies only to local prosecutors. It does not apply to the governor, and it does not apply to the Republican legislators who vote to make it apply to the prosecutors who may prosecute them. Fani Willis has had her own comments about this describing them as racist because the clear impact would be on black and minority prosecutors. Georgia is now known as the “Peach State.” It is becoming a Banana State. – Keith DB

Call it as it is
“Raskin also called out Republicans for a “grammatical error”: their long-standing habit of using “Democrat” as an adjective as if it is an insult. Noting Colorado Republican representative Lauren Boebert’s reference to a “Democrat solution,” Raskin pointed out that “Democrat” is a noun, and Republicans should, in such cases, be using the adjective: “Democratic.”
He said he was beginning to suspect that this word usage was intended to be “an act of incivility”—as of course it is—and he turned the tables. Their grammatical error was “as if every time we mentioned the other party, it just came out…like: ‘Oh, the Banana Republican Party,’ as if we were to say that every time we mentioned ‘the Banana Republican member’ or ‘the Banana Republican plan,’ or the ‘Banana Republican conference.’” (The term “banana republic” refers to a country that is corrupt and badly governed.)
“But we wouldn’t do that,” he said. “So, out of pure political courtesy, when it’s an adjective, refer to the ‘Democratic’ congresswoman or the ‘Democratic’ member.” – Letters From An American

Hungarian-style rigged elections
Instead of limiting the protections of government to the rich or the religious, Madison argued, democracy should be as expansive as they could negotiate with the “conservative” slaveholders of that time… the worldwide damage created by discarding democracy in The United States would be inestimable. Hungarian-style rigged elections would become the new worldwide norm and the new standard for what was once known as the “free world.”
Democrats, after all these years, are finally starting to push back. As Congressman Jamie Raskin recently told Republicans in the House of Representatives who insisted on referring to the “Democrat Party”: “[W]e’re not the ‘Democrat Party’ unless they’re the ‘Banana Republican Party.’” – Thom Hartmann
