How close are train tracks to your home? Your job? Your kid’s school? Tell your legislators to make these train bills better!

Did you know that there are at least 1000 train crashes and derailments every year in the US? That trains over a mile long are transporting toxic chemicals with bare-bones, exhausted crews of one or two people? That the train that derailed in East Palestine wasn’t even considered a “high-hazard flammable train?” Lots for us to learn as we dove into the two bills being introduced to improve rail safety. Neither was perfect, but the “bipartisan” bill has some huge loopholes for the rail industry to chug right through.

Tell your legislators and Pete Buttigieg at the Dept. of Transportation that you want improvements made on both of them!

Then look up exactly how close you are to a potential “sacrifice zone.”

Celebrate this upcoming Earth Day with an end to drilling off our west coast!

Yeah, we know it’s not Earth Day yet. But April will be here before we know it, while we’re distracted by the House GOP’s nonsense and cruelty. Earth Day started because a senator from Wisconsin was able to see – in the dead animals and spoiled land of a faraway state – an archetype for all the environmental devastation across America at the time, as well as an impetus for change. 54 years later, there’s been progress, but we still haven’t quelled the original danger that started it all. Remind the Democrats to get this done, and the GOP’s deficit-warriors that we know that millions of taxpayer dollars are being wasted on these wells.

– Saturday – 03/11/2023 – VENTURA – “CA Public Utility Commission – Tell them “NO methane compressor near an elementary school! ” (9:00 am PST) 2060 Cameron St Ventura CA

From John Brooks: “A campaign very dear to my heart needs you on Saturday March 11th in the morning in West Ventura. There is a highly dangerous, polluting gas compressor station next to an elementary school and within a neighborhood.

A more outrageous example of environmental racism is hard to find.

While we have made progress with the California Public Utility Commission the gas company moves forward with the intent of keeping an expanded compressor in the same location.

Next week, SoCal Gas is planning another “community meeting” to discuss whether it is a good idea to rebuild a methane compressor station across from the EP Foster elementary school. When methane compressors explode they have an incineration zone of at least a quarter mile.

The community is very clear that we/they don’t want this natural gas compressor in the neighborhood. But SoCal Gas isn’t listening. Their community meetings are “community washing” in which they try to create the appearance of community engagement with no intention of changing their plan.

I don’t often ask favors on Facebook but I hope you’ll join me/us coming out on Saturday March 11th for an hour long March at the school on Ventura Avenue to send a clear message that we don’t want this compressor station rebuilt.”Please DONATE to the cause!

We are looking for a couple of people who’d be willing to help out on our twitter team for a day or two a week. If you are interested, please reply to indivisibleventura@gmail.com with “TWITTER” in the subject line and our expert twitter wrangler will explain how it all works.
Indivisible Ventura is completely volunteer run and your donation will support the direct costs of organizing in Ventura — things like expenses for Swap Meet Justice, posters, art supplies, stamps, transportation, and more! Although we’ve defeated Trump and taken back the Senate, we have to act urgently to save our democracy and enact other desperately needed reforms. Getting it done depends on all of us. Let’s stand together, indivisible. Indivisible Ventura is one of 6,000 grassroots Indivisible groups across the country. Together, we will win. (https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ven383907253)
