How do you what this GOP scheme really means? Show people what they can do about it, like finding and calling their GOP rep? All in less than 10 seconds with two clicks?
Try it for yourself, and then I’ll explain how this campaign was created in a 3 hours using mostly free software and images courtesy Simpsons creator, Matt Groenig. Public outrage against this GOP scheme like this is a terrible thing to waste.

Keep it simple with an infographic
We first created an infographic using the free Infogram app to explain the issue. It is intentionally kept simple and compares the impact of the scheme for billionaires represented by Mr. Burns and average Americans such as the Simpsons. Billionaires pay next to no taxes while working Americans end up paying 30%. Notice the flashing alert next to the effective billionaire’s tax rate to draw your attention to the Republican giveaway to their wealthy donors. Clicking on the infographic leads you to a map where you can find out who your rep is and call them. The infographic can also be shared as a JPEG.
Once we’ve explained the issue, we want to have people upset by the GOP scheme to easily find and call their rep. We created a map with ArcGIS Online for this purpose. The map has all the congressional districts along with the Congressperson, Senator, Governor and Attorney General for that area. You can also see who is donating to these Republicans with one click. Find your rep by either searching the map or by typing in your address. Once you’ve done that, click on their phone number and you are immediately dialing their phone number. (Shoutout to Julia Bayer at esri for her help with the map).
This map was then linked to the infographic to make it easier for people to find and call their rep once they understood the GOP rip off.
Harness the outrage
In addition to calling their GOP rep, the map also encourages the respondent to register and vote as a Democrat. This leads to a customized link at Vote.org which helps track how many responses were received. Thanks to Richard Greene for this idea.
