Will South Carolina be First in the Nation for 2024?
The Democratic National Committee is currently working out the presidential primary calendar for the 2024 election, and President Biden has recommended that South Carolina’s primary election serve as the first contest of the cycle! While South Carolina’s primary election is already one of the earliest, being first in the nation would draw more presidential candidates to the state, bring greater national attention to South Carolina issues, and elevate the voices of voters of color in the primary calendar. The DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee has already approved the change and a vote by the general DNC body will take place later this Winter.
Filing for School Board Special Election Closes December 12
The Charleston County School Board has an opening for the non-partisan seat vacated in District 6 vacated by Erica Cokley after November’s election. Interested candidates must file at the County Board of Elections and Voter Registration in North Charleston by noon on Monday December 12.
Voters in District 6 (West Ashley & North Charleston) will be able to vote on who will fill the seat on Feb 7. 2023.
We are continuing to highlight local charities you can support this holiday season (and afterwards). Whether you are donating time or money, these local charities would appreciate your assistance:

Pet Helpers works to end the euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats by giving a safe, loving environment for them until they are adopted, providing the pulic with financial assistance for spay/neuter and emergency medical care, participating in humane education programs and preserving the welfare and rights of animals by pursuing animal cruelty prosecution and initiating animal welfare legislation. Pet Helpers needs financial donations to maintain its animal shelter and pet rescue operations, and requires volunteers to staff its animal operations.

Charleston Waterkeeper was founded in 2009 to protect and restore Charleston’s waterways through stewardship and data-driven advocacy. They gratefully accept financial donations and have regularly scheduled events for volunteers to get outside and help clean up Charleston waterways.
