If you’re new to the list, welcome. You were added because you are one of Ohio Democrats’ best supporters. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.
We had a busy week on the campaign trail, so let’s jump right in.
Thank You for Attending!
THANK YOU to those of you who attended Chair Liz Walters’ first big, in-person event: the Ohio Democrats Family Reunion. We hope you all enjoyed our new format and are as energized by our statewide candidates as we are. If you did attend, we would love to hear from you. Please fill out this survey to let us know what you liked about the event and what we can improve in the years to come.
It’s Time to GOTV
The Ohio Worker’s First campaign will begin Get Out The Vote operations TODAY. Ohio Democrats will be knocking doors, phone banking and executing targeted community outreach to turn out voters this fall.
Thanks to donors like you, Ohio Democrats were able to build a robust and targeted voter persuasion and turnout program earlier than ever. Now, we will mobilize hundreds of organizers and volunteers in the next 39 days to turn out Democrats to elect Tim Ryan to the Senate, Nan Whaley to Governor, flip the Supreme Court, and elect Democrats up and down the ballot across the state.
Will you join me in knocking doors?
New Tim Ryan Poll
A new poll released on Thursday from Spectrum News/Siena College shows that Tim Ryan and JD Vance are running neck-and-neck just six weeks out from Election Day, with Tim Ryan up 46%-43%.
The poll also shows Tim leading Vance in two crucial voting blocks that will help decide this race: Support from independents (47% to 35%) and women voters (54% to 34%).
I’m *shocked* women aren’t supporting a fraudulent out-of-stater who is running on a platform that strips away their rights and believes they should stay in violent marriages.
Control of the U.S. Senate is going to come down to Ohio. Click here to help ensure Tim defeats Vance this November.
Temporary Block on Abortion Ban EXTENDED
In a huge win for Ohioans, a Cincinnati judge extended his temporary restraining order on the 6-week abortion ban allowing abortions through 20 weeks to continue in Ohio through October 12th.
For three months, Ohioans have been barred access to medical treatment as doctors were forced to send women seeking abortions out of state. This was, of course, after Mike DeWine outlawed abortion at 6 weeks hours after the Dobbs decision came down. We cannot risk going back to this reality.
The future of abortion access in Ohio is still unclear and the risk of DeWine – the most anti-abortion Governor in the country – serving another term is too scary to think about. A vote for Nan Whaley ensures that abortion rights are protected in Ohio.
Who is Funding the U.S. Senate Race?
Tim Ryan: Small Dollar Donors
JD Vance: Billionaires & Mitch McConnell
The Plain Dealer took a deep dive into who is funding the U.S. Senate race in Ohio, finding that 92% of Vance’s support comes from outside groups, with $28 million coming from a Mitch McConnell associated PAC. Meanwhile, Tim Ryan is funding 83% of his TV time with small dollar donations.
This paints a picture I already know to be true – Republicans are worried by the powerhouse that is Tim Ryan. They know California Vance is BROKE and have decided to funnel money into our state in an attempt to keep him afloat.
In an attempt to combat Ryan’s popularity, the GOP operation is spending three times as much as Ryan to put Vance on the air.
Tim’s lead has proven durable, despite these attacks. We need your help to keep it that way.
GOP candidate JR Majewski has been caught in not one, but two lies about his service in the military. Last week we learned that Majewski lied about serving in combat in Afghanistan, a focal point of his campaign. Adding to the first lie, Majeski said he was punished and demoted following a “brawl” in September of 2001. Upon further investigation, it turns out Majewski was stopped for driving drunk on a U.S. air base in Japan.
Majewski’s lies are shameful and dishonorable. Then again, what did we expect from the guy that spray painted a MAGA sign onto his entire lawn.
It’s no surprise that a Trump devotee, Q’Anon conspiracy theorist, and January 6th insurrectionist has been caught in these lies. It makes you wonder how many more he’s sitting on. House Republicans have since pulled their financial support for advertising in the district. But this race is still too close for comfort.
We cannot afford to have Majewski representing us in Congress. Show your support for Congresswoman Kaptur today.
New Greg Landsman Ad
Greg Landsman’s campaign released its fourth ad, titled “Safety”. It features Councilman Scotty Johnson, a 33-year veteran of the Cincinnati Police Department and former lead SWAT negotiator; Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey, a 35-year veteran of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office; former Sgt. Cassandra Tucker; and former Cincinnati Police Officer Eric Dunn.
Republicans want you to believe that Democrats don’t care about the safety of our neighbors. When in fact, we care more than Republicans and it’s not just a scare tactic to get people elected to office.
“Not-So-Strong” Ohio Tour Concludes
Democrats brought the Not-So-Strong Ohio Press Tour to Columbus this week for their last stop as they travel across the state to lay out how Mike DeWine’s weakness is taking our state backward.
For four years, DeWine has been too weak to stand up to extremists in his own party and the special interests fueling his campaign, instead serving as a rubber stamp for policies that hurt working families while failing to provide the leadership Ohioans expect from their governor.
- Abortion Rights – Mike DeWine told an anti-abortion special interest group that he wants ‘to go as far as he can’ to rip away reproductive rights in Ohio.
- Gun Violence – Despite promising to ‘do something’ to combat gun violence, DeWine caved to the gun lobby and signed gun bills that are opposed by Ohio law enforcement because they make Ohioans less safe.
- FirstEnergy Bribery Scandal – ‘State Official 1’ has been dodging questions since October about what he knew and when about the largest public corruption scandal in state history, a scandal that continues to cost Ohioans $287,000 every single day.
- Redistricting – Even as he acknowledged the maps he was passing were likely unconstitutional, DeWine ignored voters, caved to his own party and rubber stamped seven illegal, GOP-gerrymandered maps.
DNC Black Caucus Midwest Regional Leadership Summit
The DNC Black Caucus is hosting their Midwest Regional Leadership Summit in Columbus on October 14-15.
The summit will be hosted by DNC Black Caucus Chair Virgie Rollins, Midwest Regional Director and Executive Committee Member Mark Mallory, and Black Caucus Treasurer Khary Penebaker.
This two day event will help leaders get trained, mobilized, and fired up to turn out Black voters in this year’s critically important midterm election. We know that when we turn out our people, we put ourselves in the best position for victories up and down the ballot.

Flavor of the Week
This week, we asked Former Dayton Mayor and Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Nan Whaley about her favorite Ohio ice cream and she said…
“Graeter’s is the best. I like mint chocolate chip of all brands, though. If I could one have one food on a deserted island it would be ice cream”.
Until Next Week
We are 37 days away from Election Day on November 8th.
It is GOTV season and we have a lot of work to do to turn out voters on the ground in every corner of the state. We have doors to knock, phone banks to hold, absentees to chase and of course- thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by October 11th. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help Ohio Democrats turn out as many Democrats as we can.
As always, thank you for standing with us. I am immensely grateful for your partnership.
