Ohio Abortion Ban Temporarily BLOCKED

This week, a judge in Cincinnati granted a temporary restraining order blocking the 6-week abortion ban in Ohio that was put in place hours after the fall of Roe.

This comes a few days after the most recent attempt from Republicans to undermine abortion rights when South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham introduced a bill to ban abortions after 15 weeks nationwide.

The temporary restraining order in Ohio will be in effect for 14 days, during which abortions through 20 weeks can continue. The 6-week ban has already caused severe harm to women and families across Ohio, including the 10-year-old rape victim who was forced to travel across state lines to receive an abortion. We cannot risk going back to this reality.

Make no mistake – there’s one man to blame here and his name is Mike DeWine. Our radical, anti-abortion crusader (Governor) wants to “go as far as we can” to prohibit abortions in Ohio. If he wins reelection, Ohio could implement a complete ban on all abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest. Let that sink in. Abortion is on the ballot – now more than ever.

A vote for Nan Whaley is the only way to ensure that abortion rights are protected.

Where in the World is J.D. Vance?

Lindsey Graham is the W-O-R-S-T (except for maybe J.D. Vance)

Just when you begin to forget about him, the senior Senator from South Carolina crawls out of the swamp to make headlines, while inevitably causing our collective jaws to hit the floor. This week, the soulless ghoul, masquerading as a mini John McCain, introduced a bill to ban all abortions at 15 weeks, nationwide.

The bill surprised no one, except for the 49 other Republicans in the GOP Senate conference. Apparently, Mitch and the gang were annoyed with Lindsay’s timing after seeing their poll numbers tank in light of Amy, Brett, Sam, and Clarence throwing away 50 years of abortion rights and precedent.

The sad truth is this: Lindsey’s 15-week abortion ban would actually be a reprieve for Ohio women. Mike DeWine is so extreme, he outlawed abortion at 6 weeks, hours after the Dobbs decision came down.

But wait, there’s more!

After introducing the bill, Lindsey announced he will be traveling to Ohio to campaign for J.D. Vance. J.D. was then asked if he supports Lindsey’s nationwide abortion ban.

J.D., of course, was too much of a weasel to respond to reporter inquiries. But that doesn’t mean we don’t know the answer. Last summer, he said this:

House of Sykes v. House of Gilbert

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) just added another $28 million of TV reservations this fall. Of that, the NRCC plans to spend $3.4 million in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.

Former Ohio House Minority Leader Emilia Sykes is running in the 13th Congressional District against Madison Gesiotto Gilbert, an anti-abortion nutjob who doesn’t believe in exceptions for rape and incest.

Sykes’ opponent has something in common with fraud, J.D. Vance, in that she is also an out of touch millionaire who will do anything Trump asks. Emilia Sykes will fight for Ohio’s best interest. Contribute today to help Sykes crush her Trump-backed opponent.

“Not-So-Strong” Ohio

Ohio Democrats kicked off our ‘Not-So-Strong’ Ohio Tour as we travel across the state to lay out how Mike DeWine’s weakness is taking our state backward.

For four years, DeWine has been too weak to stand up to extremists in his own party and the special interests fueling his campaign.  Instead, he serves as a rubber stamp for policies that hurt working families while failing to provide the leadership Ohioans expect from their governor.

Key examples of DeWine’s weakness include:

  • Abortion Rights – Mike DeWine told an anti-abortion special interest group that he wants ‘to go as far as we can’ to rip away reproductive rights in Ohio.
  • Gun Violence – Despite promising to ‘do something’ to combat gun violence, DeWine caved to the gun lobby and signed gun bills that are opposed by Ohio law enforcement because they make Ohioans less safe.
  • FirstEnergy Bribery Scandal – ‘State Official 1’ has been dodging questions since October about what he knew and when about the largest public corruption scandal in state history, a scandal that continues to cost Ohioans $287,000 every single day.
  • Redistricting – Even as he knew the maps he was passing were likely unconstitutional, DeWine ignored voters, caved to his own party and rubber stamped seven illegal, GOP-gerrymandered maps.

Flavor of the Week

This week, we asked Columbus area Representative Dontavius Jarrells about his favorite ice cream.“Jeni’s Ice Cream, Gooey Butter Cake” When asked for any additional comment, Rep. Jarrells said, ”It’s the best. That’s the comment.” We agree, Rep. Jarrells, and we hope we can grab a scoop soon!

Recently, Rep. Jarrells received the endorsement of The Next 50. The Next 50 focuses on lifting up and raising funds for the next generation of Democratic leaders. They focus on all levels of government, hoping to build long term infrastructure and a nationwide talent pool. Congratulations, Representative!

Until Next Week

Summer is over and we are 51 days away from election day on November 8th.

We have a lot of work to do to get more field organizers on the ground in every corner of the state. We have offices to open, phones banks to hold, canvasses to launch, and of course – thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by Election Day. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help build the infrastructure needed to win.
If you’re unsure about how much you can still contribute to help us win in November and beyond, simply reply to this email. My team will respond with what you can still do to help us grow the team.

As always, thank you for standing with us. We are so grateful for your incredible support.

I hope to see you out on the campaign trail,

Emily Feltz
