Got Friends in Lake, Kane, or Other IL Counties?

The Illinois Supreme Court matters. For one thing, it can determine what happens with abortion access and reproductive rights. If we lose the Illinois Supreme Court, Illinois could lose abortion rights and reproductive freedom.

The IL Supreme Court districts to watch are Districts 2 & 3. Tell your friends or family in these districts to VOTE in the IL Supreme Court election – don’t overlook it on the ballot!

Watch recording of the forum with Dems Liz Rochford & May Kay O’Brien, running for IL Supreme Court

November 8 will be the most consequential election ever for reproductive rights in Illinois, according to Personal PAC, which co-sponsored last week’s forum with Democratic candidates Liz Rochford and Mary Kay O’Brien.

Tell your friends and family
in suburban or other Illinois counties to be sure to vote for IL Supreme Court justice when they cast their ballots for November 8:

  • IL Supreme Court District 2 includes these counties: Lake, Kane, McHenry, DeKalb, Kendall. Pro-choice candidate to support: Elizabeth (Liz) Rochford
  • IL Supreme Court District 3 includes these counties: DuPage, Will, Bureau, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, LaSalle. Pro-choice candidate to support: Mary Kay O’Brien

Get On the Phones – See Your Friends

See anyone you know? At last week’s “Wisconsin Wednesdays” phonebank, three Indivisible Chicago-South friends took part. In fact, Co-Leader Sarah Lincoln, who’s also on the board of the citywide Indivisible Chicago Alliance, is one of the regular hosts and trainers. Sign up here.

You don’t need experience – just the desire to protect our country & democracy in the November midterm elections. Via Zoom, you get training and support from friendly folks like Sarah, and you get to share experiences with other folks fighting for our democracy on the phones.

What do you need in order to phonebank from home? A laptop, a phone, and a comfy place to sit. Sign up here!

ICA Phonebanks for You – Tues & Wed Evenings

Can you spare 2 hours a week to protect our country from MAGA fascists? Every Tuesday evening (6-8 pm), you can help Lauren Underwood win in 2022, and every Wednesday (4-6 pm or 6-8 pm alternating), you can help Democrats up and down the ticket win in Wisconsin. Choose your date(s) here!

On Tuesdays, phone voters for Rep Lauren Underwood.
On Wednesdays, phone for Wisconsin Dems, like Gov Tony Evers and Senate candidate Mandela Barnes.

Volunteer for Sean Casten – Keep IL-06 Blue

From our friend Reid McCollum: Rep. Sean Casten is the most vulnerable Democratic House incumbent in Illinois this fall. Almost 80% of voters are new to his district, and Gov. Pritzker only won it by 5 points in 2018.

You can help Sean win re-election and defend the Democratic House majority by talking with voters about his outstanding record on climate, reproductive rights, and gun safety. There are fewer than 75 days left until the midterms, so now is the time to help us hold the 6th! Learn more about Sean here.

ACT: Volunteer in person … or from your own home:

Make a Difference in Georgia: Phone from Chicago

From Georgia Dems: We are excited to “Keep Our Dem Senate”’ with Reverend Warnock and elect Stacey Abrams as Governor! You’re invited with front-row seats.

From now until our big win in November we will have phone bank events that welcome amazing volunteers and special groups across the U.S.

ACT: Phone Georgia voters from your home to help turn out the vote for Georgia’s critical elections. Many dates, times to choose from. Sign up here.

Advocate for the War Divestment Resolution – with Sue Avila

Join IC-South Side member Sue Avila in advocating for a resolution in the Chicago City Council to divest Chicago from war.

IC-SS member Sue Avila

Sue writes: Chicago is currently investing taxpayer dollars in the War Machine through its pension funds, which have millions invested in weapons manufacturers and military contractors.

These investments prop up violence and militarism at home. A Chicago Tribune analysis published August 19, 2020, found that Illinois law enforcement agencies received $4.7 million worth of surplus military equipment including several armored vehicles and assault rifles in a two-year period starting in 2017.

Sue continues: A group of us are working to pass a Resolution in the Chicago City Council to divest Chicago from war. Currently the divestment resolution, R2021-1305, has 9 co-sponsors including Ald. Jeanette Taylor (20th Ward). The resolution was moved last March to the Finance Committee.  Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th Ward) is Co-Chair of that committee. We need your help getting the Finance Committee on board.

ACT: A group of us are organizing to meet with Ald. Hairston in the coming weeks to urge her to support the war divestment resolution.
