We had a busy week on the campaign trail, so let’s jump right in.
J.D. Vance Hates Being in Ohio
On Wednesday, J.D. Vance was spotted in Nantucket – over 800 miles away from Ohio, the state Vance supposedly wants to represent in the United States Senate.
And then on Thursday, Vance was spotted in New York, hobnobbing again in what looked like Scrooge McDuck’s dining room.
J.D. Vance spent most of his adult life in California and DC. And he’s admitted he feels ‘out of place’ in Ohio.
He continues to earn brutal headlines about his abysmal campaign and his extreme, out-of-touch comments. Vance is facing backlash from domestic violence advocates for saying women should stay in violent marriages. Vance has also faced pushback from Black lawmakers for comparing abortion to slavery and for calling rape “inconvenient.”
The good news for J.D. is he only has to be in Ohio for a few more months. Once he loses to Tim Ryan, he’ll finally be free.
DeWine and Husted Implicated in FirstEnergy Corruption
We’re one step closer to learning how Mike DeWine and Jon Husted were involved in (and likely at the center of) the largest public corruption scandal in state history.
A Gannett news story detailed how Mike DeWine and Jon Husted, ‘state official 1’ and ‘state official 2,’ were working behind the scenes to help FirstEnergy move the scandal-ridden HB 6, legislation at the center of a $80 million bribery scheme, forward.
This only raises more questions about what Mike DeWine and Jon Husted knew about the bribery scam and when. Ohioans continue to pay $287,000 every single day because of this scandal.
This reporting only makes that full accounting more important and we’ll continue to press for answers.

CHIPS Act Signed into Law
President Joe Biden signed the CHIPS Act Tuesday morning, receiving bipartisan support in Ohio and around the country. Intel will invest at least $20 billion into its central Ohio plant, creating thousands of jobs east of Columbus.
Intel alone will hire 3,000 employees. With it will come new innovations and businesses from across the world. With time, it could grow into a trillion dollar industry.
Big thanks to Senator Sherrod Brown, Tim Ryan, and our Democratic congressional delegation for this Ohio win.
And remember – when Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in the Senate tried to block final passage, JD Vance and Mike DeWine were silent.
Where Does J.R. Majewski Get His Money?
According to a Business Insider report, radical QAnon conspiracist and GOP candidate J.R. Majewski is breaking federal law by refusing to file his personal financial disclosure forms.
What is he trying to hide? Majewski is running his campaign on “honesty,” “integrity,” and “the ability to communicate” while staying silent on his income sources.
Majewski’s failure to file this most basic paperwork proves he’s not ready for Congress. Voters in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District deserve better.
Let’s keep Marcy Kaptur in office in one of our most competitive Congressional races in the country.
88 Days Away
We are 88 days out from Election Day and we have to meet voters where they are – in all 88 counties.
We’re doing our best to hire as many organizers and to open as many field offices as possible. This is our most important work, but it’s also our most expensive.
You have not yet reached your max to help fund our field efforts. Please reach out to me by replying to this email if you’d like more information about how much you can give.
GOP Justice Pat Fischer Doubles Down on Comparing Abortion to Slavery
TWICE in less than a month, radical Republican Justice Pat Fischer compared abortion to slavery, most recently in a Columbus Dispatch opinion column Fischer wrote himself. In the column where Fischer attempted to defend his earlier comments, he did nothing more than repeat his earlier points – comparing Roe v. Wade to decisions like Dred Scott.
Pat Fischer once again reminded Ohio why he belongs nowhere near Ohio’s highest court and why removing the extreme Republicans running for reelection is so important to the future of our state.
Come party with the State Party
The Ohio Democratic Party is throwing a party in Columbus on September 24th, and we can’t celebrate without you.
No one likes a four hour, rubber chicken dinner. And that’s not what we’re planning. Instead, we will gather for a fun and entertaining afternoon to celebrate Ohio Democrats and hear from our party leaders. Get your tickets here.
Until Next Week
Summer is almost over and time is ticking for us to win this November.
We have a lot of work to do to get more field organizers on the ground in every corner of the state. We have offices to open, phones banks to hold, canvasses to launch, and of course – thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by Election Day. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help build the infrastructure needed to win.
If you’re unsure about how much you can still contribute to help us win in November and beyond, simply reply to this email. My team will respond with what you can still do to help us grow the team.
As always, thank you for standing with us. We are so grateful for your incredible support.
I hope to see you out on the campaign trail,
