Where will the Republican plan to kill Medicare hurt the most?

Ron Johnson (R-WI) suggests putting Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block every year.

Sen. Ron. Johnson (R-WI) argues for eliminating entitlements: “Social Security and Medicare, if you qualify, you just get it no matter what the cost… We ought to turn everything into discretionary spending so it’s all evaluated.” on the The Regular Joe Show.

The GOP Plan which calls for ‘All federal legislation sunsets in five years’. That includes Medicare.

Check this map for the counties that Republicans would be devastated.

Understand the GOP plan to kill Medicare

  • Read the GOP 11 Point Plan. Notice Point 6: All federal legislation sunsets in 5 years. That includes Medicare and Social Security.
  • This map shows the number of people per county without health insurance – broken down by age group.
  • Notice how seniors have the lowest number of uninsured for any age group.
  • That’s because of the Medicare benefit that Republicans plan to strip away.
  • The AARP reports that Medicare and lower prescription drug prices are vital for seniors

Florida retirees stand to lose Medicare and Social Security

The author of the GOP plan is Rick Scott (R-FL). He “was forced to resign as the head of a healthcare company that pled guilty to massive amounts of systematic Medicare fraud, including 14 felonies, leading to a historic $1.7 billion fine.”

“If there’s one state where people must truly appreciate the importance of Social Security and Medicare, it’s Florida. Nearly 5 million Floridians rely on these programs for financial and health security every day. For many seniors in the Sunshine State, their Social Security checks — averaging a modest $1,625 per month — can make the difference between financial survival and falling into poverty. Without Medicare, most Florida seniors would not have affordable health insurance and access to quality medical care. How ironic, then, that Florida’s own Sen. Rick Scott would propose a plan that could bring an end to Social Security and Medicare as we know them.” – Miami Herald
