Updates from the Campaign Trail here in Ohio

6 mins read

The Ohio Scoop is your weekly campaign fix, filled with the most up-to-date information about Ohio Democrats and everything happening on the campaign trail here in Ohio. We’re here so you can get your political scoop, all in one place.

If you’re new to the list, welcome. You were added because you are one of Ohio Democrats’ best supporters. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.

We had a busy week on the campaign trail, so let’s jump right in.

Uvalde Texas Shooting

Our hearts break for the families and friends who lost loved ones in Uvalde, Texas. No parent should have to worry their child won’t return home from school. As we grieve, we also demand action above and beyond thoughts and prayers.

Since the 2019 mass shooting in Dayton, Mike DeWine has signed “Stand Your Ground” legislation after once threatening to veto it. He then ignored pleas from law enforcement and Ohioans when he signed permitless carry into law, legislation that will make Ohio families and police officers less safe.

We, as Ohio Democrats, will not stop calling on Mike DeWine to do something and take meaningful action to curb gun violence.

Tim Ryan endorsed by Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council

Tim has been a fierce advocate for our brothers and sisters in labor, championing shop class, apprenticeship programs, and programs like Pathways to the Building Trades and Helmets to Hardhats that aim to create a robust and diverse workforce. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, one of Tim’s signature achievements in the US House, is projected to bring hundreds of thousands of new construction jobs to Ohio and includes strong labor protections like prevailing wage and fringe benefits. Tim has also been a strong proponent of the PRO Act, which would strengthen and protect unions, while making it easier for workers to join one.

Rocky Republican Road

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted just accepted a corporate board position with a community bank. Yes, public official #2 will continue being paid six figures by the Ohio taxpayer while also collecting a check from a private entity.

Call me crazy, but it seems like Mike DeWine and Jon Husted just don’t give a $%^& anymore. Why hide the corruption when they can shove it down your throat?

Help us toss this fool using this link.

The best ticket for Governor and Lt. Governor got it right. We want leaders that push the limits of Ohio’s potential, not ethics law. It’s time to put an end to pay-to-play politics and stand with working people.

Flavor of the Week from Rep. Jeff Crossman

We asked Democratic Attorney General Nominee Jeff Crossman his favorite ice cream and Ohio maker. Here is what he said…

“Honey Hut in Parma. Locally made strawberry ice cream. It’s the epitome of summer—Reminds me of growing up in lake county and spending time hanging out at the Kirtland strawberry festival in lake county every June. Ohio has awesome festivals all year long. Harvest festivals throughout our rural areas and some great ethnic festivals in our cities which makes Ohio a unique and wonderful place to live.”

Jeff Crossman is ready to fight in every county and every season. Learn more about Rep. Crossman’s plans for Ohio.

Until Next Week

We are six months away from Election Day.

We have a lot of work to do to get more field organizers on the ground in every corner of the state. We have offices to open, phones banks to hold, canvasses to launch, and of course – thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by Election Day. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help build the infrastructure needed to win.

DemCast is an advocacy-based 501(c)4 nonprofit. We have made the decision to build a media site free of outside influence. There are no ads. We do not get paid for clicks. If you appreciate our content, please consider a small monthly donation.

The people of Ohio deserve a government that supports their hard work and shares their hopes for the future. Our platform represents the Democratic vision for our State, embracing and implementing the dreams of Ohioans. We firmly defend these American beliefs, values, and traditions and are fighting hard every day to elect Democrats who have the experience and ideas to improve our state and who will hold Columbus accountable.
