Updates from the Campaign Trail here in Ohio

The Ohio Scoop

The Ohio Scoop is your weekly campaign fix, filled with the most up-to-date information about Ohio Democrats and everything happening on the campaign trail here in Ohio. The name pays homage to one of Ohio’s favorite snacks – Ice Cream. We’re here so you can get your political scoop, all in one place.

If you’re new to the list, welcome. You were added because you are one of Ohio Democrats’ best supporters. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.

We had a busy week on the campaign trail, so let’s jump right in.

Redistricting Split

For the third time, the Ohio Supreme Court has ordered state officials to argue why they shouldn’t be held in contempt over redistricting failures. This is an easy answer for Democratic commissioners Senator Sykes and Leader Russo who’ve repeatedly shown up and shown out for bipartisan map making procedures. Not surprisingly, the GOP commissioners will need to weasel around answers to questions about their closed door meetings and last minute votes with no public input. The GOP is relying on federal courts choosing previous maps to bail them out of their own mess.

Marcy Kaptur’s Opponent is B-O-N-K-E-R-S

J.R. Majewski, MAGA rapper (yes you read that right), QAnon conspiracy theorist, and insurrectionist won the Republican primary for Congress and will face Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur in November.

Majewski seems to be more interested in overthrowing the government than serving in it. Now, his repeated rhetoric sharing QAnon material and other conspiracy theories is embarrassing Ohio and making national headlines

Marcy has dedicated her career in public service to fighting for all Ohioans to have a fair playing field. She’s worked with both parties to secure investments in our communities and has been a true friend to veterans, seniors, first responders, and working people of all backgrounds. Help us defend Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s seat and keep this bozo out of office.

Rocky Republican Road over Roe

Republican Attorney General Dave Yost celebrated the overturning of the landmark case Roe v. Wade in a leaked SCOTUS opinion.

When Republican Governor Mike DeWine was asked again if he would sign a “trigger law” should the legislation reach his desk, he replied in a more testy manner: “I think you know who I am. You know what I care about.”

Later this week we learned that J.D. Vance is so far out of the mainstream that he believes Ohio women – even survivors of rape and incest – should not be free to make decisions about their own reproductive health care.

Republicans seems to be forgetting most Ohioans are in favor of Roe and against the devastating consequences most pro-life views have on rural, poor, and African American women.

As SCOTUS prepares to overturn 50 years of precedent, we cannot accept defeat. We must elect officials like Tim Ryan to the U.S. Senate to codify Roe at the federal level and Nan Whaley for Governor to protect Ohioans at the state level.

DEMOCRATIC Senate Scoop

Since winning the endorsement of failed Florida blogger Donald Trump and winning the Republican nomination for Senate, California Vance has been spotted almost everywhere except Ohio. The Silicon Valley hack stumbled out of the $70m Republican primary only to make it to Pennsylvania to pal around with Donald Trump and quack Dr. Oz.

On the other hand, Tim Ryan has been crisscrossing the buckeye state talking to workers.

Flavor of the Week from Councilmember Greg Landsman

We asked Democratic Congressional Nominee Greg Landsman his favorite ice cream and Ohio maker.

“I’m torn. Obviously Black Raspberry Chip from Graeter’s is a Cincinnati classic for a reason. But I’m also a huge fan of my neighborhood Mt. Washington Creamy Whip. The Creamy Whip is soft-serve, though, so it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Lots of great ice cream in Ohio’s First District.”

Greg Landsman was always the cream of the crop, but grew up to be a “graeter” candidate. The DCCC has identified Ohio’s First Congressional District as a Red to Blue seat. Learn more about Greg Landsman’s plans for Ohio

Until Next Week

We are just 6 months away from Election Day.

We have a lot of work to do to get more field organizers on the ground in every corner of the state. We have offices to open, phones banks to hold, canvasses to launch, and of course – thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by Election Day. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help build the infrastructure needed to win.

If you’re unsure about how much you can still contribute to help us win in November and beyond, simply reply to this email. My team will respond with what you can still do to help us grow the team.

As always, thank you for standing with us. We are so grateful for your incredible support.

I hope to see you out on the campaign trail,
