Authoritarian socialist DeSantis attacks Disney

Authoritarian socialists attack business for politics.

Putin took over Yukos Oil, the largest Russian oil firm at the time and jailed Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the CEO. Hugo Chavez nationalized SIDOR steel mills in Venezuela destroy. DeSantis attacks Disney, the largest single site employer in Florida on a political vendetta…

What happens when politicians punish corporations in a temper tantrum? Demand political donations for favors? Harass businessmen? Spoiler alert: It doesn’t end well. This power map draws the parallels between three authoritarian socialists and why Florida is now being called DeSantis-tan.

Disney pays millions in taxes to Florida

“Disney World takes up around 47 square miles – almost twice the size of Manhattan. Other than the park that takes up the land that is owned and operated by the Walt Disney corporation, there are also wetlands, wildlife, spill off areas and specific environmental protection areas. There is a quasi governmental scheme, taxes are paid to the state and there are post offices for both cities. In order for the park city to remain a true city, employees of the park are encouraged to live within the city limits of Lake Buena Vista. Disney security is a true police force and town officials are all Disney cast members.” – Reference

DeSantis’s socialist attacks

Colorado Governor Jared Polis rebuked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “socialist attacks” on Disney, inviting the company to put down roots in the Centennial State amid its political showdown with the Florida GOP.  “Florida’s authoritarian socialist attacks on the private sector are driving businesses away,” Polis tweeted on Tuesday. “In CO, we don’t meddle in affairs of companies like @Disney or @Twitter.”

The political showdown appears to have its roots in Disney’s objection to a Republican-led measure signed into law last month, when the state formally outlawed the instruction of any LGBTQ+ subjects in the classroom with what critics call the party’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill (HB 1557). Shortly after the bill’s signing, Disney CEO Bob Chapek rebuked the law, vowing to have it repealed. That promise did not sit well with the Florida GOP.” – Salon
