“In one week, I experienced, witnessed, and heard more awful things than my 14 years at CAN and in the Iraq war…combined!”
— Derrick Miller
Derrick Miller is the Executive Director of the Community Action Network in Ann Arbor Michigan and he felt he had to do something to help the people of Ukraine. “With a loose plan in mind and a flight booked, I was eventually equipped with over $32,000 in resources for Ukrainian refugees. The experience was intense, to say the least, but it was also highly impactful. More than half of the resources ended up as cash in the hands of refugees with the other half used for the purchase of direly needed supplies and a mini-bus.”
While he was there he was assisted by Natalya Starak who has fascinating and heartwarming stories to share with us.
On Conversations, they will touch on experiences at two refugee centers, a hostel with nearly 300 Ukrainian women and children, multiple border crossings, and hundreds of interactions with a myriad of foreign volunteers, refugees, Polish and Ukrainian authorities and even the pets of Ukrainian refugees.
They will be my guests on Conversations at 7pm ET tonight, Sunday, May 1.
