The good news of the day, of course: Justice KBJ! OTOH, there’s a bonanza of horrible state legislation these days, like Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill and the Texas law authorizing child abuse charges against parents, medical facilities, teachers and even the general public who support trans kids and their families. Almost makes us forget that our California legislature is trying to pass laws to make life better for us. What a concept! Below, info on a couple of our fave bills and how you can help them pass. And of course, our fave news of the week that we just could not make up.
Action: California For All: StateStrong Advocacy
Deadline: April 20 –California StateStrong, a coalition of Indivisible groups across the state, has issued its annual list of priority state legislation, with 15 bills in five categories: “Economic Justice & Education,” “Racial & Criminal Justice, Gun Reform,” “Climate Justice,” “Healthcare,” and “Democracy Reform & Privacy and Civil Rights.” Thanks to IEB members who voted for your top choices in each category — several of our top bills made it onto CA StateStrong’s list. Our article tells what you can do to help pass two of our favorites — AB 1819, which would prevent corporations with more than 1% in foreign ownership from contributing to political campaigns, and AB 2632, which would begin to reform the form of torture that is solitary confinement.

We Could Not Make This Up
In “My Fair Lady,” misogynist blockhead Professor Henry Higgins famously asked “Why can’t a woman be more like a man?” Did someone say “misogynist blockheads”? By George, they’ve got it! GOP 2022 version, “My Fair You Are the Genitalia You Were Born With,” opens with plucky urchin Margie Greene belting a toe-tapping “I’m going to tell you right now what is a woman .. We came from Adam’s rib .. We are the weaker sex, but we are our husband’s wife.” Act Two! Dashing young Madison Cawthorn croons insta-hit “I’m about to define what a woman is for you: XX chromosomes, no tallywacker.” Sadly, Lauren Boebert refuses to sing the Micky — er, Mickey — Mouse song as an encore. Our plain disdain is mainly for her brain!
