We know it does not feel quite like December outside, but it is the holiday season. No matter what you celebrate, CCDP wishes you a happy holidays! We will not have a newsletter for the next two weeks, so, by the time you hear from us next, it will be 2022!
If you want to socialize with fellow Dems during this holiday season, please join us this Friday evening for our Winter Social at Frothy Beard Brewing Company. You can RSVP through the button below!
SOUTH CAROLINA REDISTRICTING
The State House and State Senate passed the state legislative maps, and Governor McMaster signed them.
However, consideration of the US House map has likely been delayed until the start of the regular session in January. Please review the maps below.
STATE LEGISLATURE PREFILED BILLS
It’s that time again! Time for our State House and Senate members to prefile bills. Prefiling is the process where a bill is introduced and sometimes referred to the appropriate committee prior to the start of the legislative session. So far this year, State House members have prefiled 74 bills, and State Senate members have prefiled 71. Legislators prefile bills to help show the public what their priorities are as they head into the legislative session. This is your earliest chance to voice your opposition to those bills that don’t agree with your vision of the direction the state should head in. These bills are formal legislative proposals which allow for legislators to co-sponsor the bill or opponents to build opposition to it. Bills prefiled before the official start of the legislative session will not move within the legislature until the first day of session, which is January 11, 2022. Prefiled bills from the legislators can be found here: https://www.scstatehouse.gov/sessphp/prefil21.phpWe urge you browse through the prefiled bills and educate yourself on what our legislators will be trying to accomplish this year.
This is the time for action! Call or write your legislators and let them know how you feel about their bills. We must let them know that we are watching and willing to get loud against bad bills and in favor of good ones. If you don’t know who your legislators are, you can look them up here: https://www.scstatehouse.gov/legislatorssearch.php

READY TO RUN FOR OFFICE?
If you are interested in making a difference in your community, please take time to consider running for office. The South Carolina Democratic Party has put out a form for individuals to express interest in running. You may think that it is too early to start thinking about this, but electoral success will require carefully laid out plans, which in turn require time. In addition to the SCDP information that you can access through the button below, here are more resources for women considering a run for office:
