Bold Action Needed NOW to Protect Abortion Access in Virginia
Our access to abortion is at risk in Virginia. The only way to make sure we stay protected with a new Governor and a Republican majority in the House of Delegates poised to wipe out all the progress we’ve made to protect a women’s right to choose is to codify abortion access into law before the new administration takes over. All that is required to do this is a vote in Special Session. This could be accomplished immediately since we are already in Special Session, but our Democratic leadership won’t take this bold step without a firm push by us.
Make no mistake, our freedom and dignity is on the line. The Supreme Court will not protect a 50 year Constitution right. We have to act!
PROTECTING WOMEN’S EQUALITY AND FREEDOM IN VIRGINIA REQUIRES DEMOCRATS TO CODIFY ACCESS TO ABORTION NOW
The Virginia House and Senate are currently in a Special Session.
ALL THAT IS NEEDED TO RETURN INTO SPECIAL SESSION TO CODIFY ABORTION ACCESS IS ACTION BY THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE AND THE CHAIR OF RULES IN THE SENATE.
Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin can use executive action to limit access to safe and legal abortion. We can’t leave it up to him.

Virginia could join the 14 other states and DC that guarantee access to safe and legal abortion. Virginia Democrats removed onerous restrictions on abortion, but unlike the 14 other states, they did not stop the Governor, executive agencies, and the Attorney General from taking steps to limit access.
Choice is supported by the majority of Americans. The Republicans will take cruel and misogynist action at some point – so we can either play offense, be strategic, stand up for freedom — OR wait for the painful regret as we go on the defense.
The time for bold action is now, before it is too late.
We are tired of regrets. Let’s witness how Virginia Democrats will lead and earn the majority once again. We will remember this moment.
