For years, Ohioans have been promised meaningful investments in infrastructure — and now those promises are being delivered by Ohio Democrats and President Joe Biden. On Monday, President Biden signed the $1 trillion historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law.
This bill will provide Ohio with critical investments to rebuild and repair our roads and bridges, expand access to broadband, deliver clean drinking water, and create good-paying jobs for working Ohioans. Here are just some of the ways Ohio will benefit from this crucial part of Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda:
- $9.2 billion in funding for federal-aid highway programs;
- $483 million for bridge replacement and repair projects over the next five years;
- $100 million minimum to expand broadband access across the state, including providing access to at least 259,000 Ohioans;
- $1.4 billion over the next five years to improve water infrastructure;
- And so much more.
These investments are a strong first step — a crucial step that will help bolster Ohio’s economy right now, but we know it’s not just about investments in physical infrastructure. Now that we’ve invested in our roads, bridges, broadband access, and water infrastructure, we need to keep up the progress by making healthcare and childcare more affordable.
We’re grateful that Democrats in the House and Senate worked to get this legislation passed and grateful for President Biden for signing this legislation into law. But we can’t stop fighting for future legislation and investments that will continue to move our state forward.
