Video from WCDP Meeting:
Domestic Violence in
Domestic violence in America is a problem of shocking magnitude to which we’ve become almost completely inured.
Domestic violence is a grim reality in Washtenaw County, as in every other U.S. jurisdiction, only made worse by the pandemic lockdowns. At our October meeting, we heard from expert practitioners working in all capacities to intervene in and prevent domestic violence.
Watch the video here.

Save the Date!
Saturday, November 6th, 9:30am
WCDP General Membership Meeting via Zoom
Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes will discuss their plans for Michigan, the challenges Democrats face in the 2022 elections, and Democratic Party responses to Republican efforts at voter suppression, including:
- Responding to Republican efforts to create barriers to requesting an absentee ballot and restricting voting for citizens without photo identification;
- Protecting poll workers and other election officials from intimidation, harassment, and violence;
- Promoting economic recovery after the pandemic; and numerous other subjects.
November 6th! Save the Date!
We must vote, and must protect the vote.
At the October meeting, Erica Peresman, the MDP Voter Protection Director, spoke of the voter suppression petition drive being sponsored by the Republicans, and the actions we can take to help defeat it and protect the polls next fall.
She specifically asked for voter protection volunteers, to serve as poll challengers (Republican poll challengers will be out in force at polling stations across the state), hotline volunteers, and phone bank recruiters for other volunteers. They will train volunteers for the jobs, and you will be supported throughout.
Take Action! Redistricting
At the State Level
The MICRC has issued draft maps for the State House, State Senate, and U.S. Representative districts. We need folks across the state advocating for fair maps and signing up to give public comment to the MICRC.
We need to give speak up IMMEDIATELY and advocate for fair maps that level the playing field.
There are a couple ways to do this.
1. Comment directly on their latest maps map using this link: https://michigan.mydistricting.com/legdistricting/comments/plan/199/23
2. Sign up to speak at one of the public hearings later in the month. To be kept up-to-date on those hearings, sign up here: https://forms.gle/9EWXDffr8z1XVcpW6
Please note: Recently the MICRC voted to limit public comment to 1 minute for each speaker.
Upcoming Public Hearings:
Public Hearings run from 1-3:30 and 5-8 on the following dates:
