Important information regarding redistricting!

3 mins read

Good Afternoon, Oakland County!

Keep reading for important information on redistricting.

The Michigan Independent Citizen’s Redistricting Commission is meeting daily this week as they work to finalize their drafts of the state House, state Senate, and Congressional maps.

Public comment encouraging partisan fairness remains vital.

The MICRC’s partisan fairness review showed:

Their most recent statewide state Senate map favors Republicans by 7 percent

Their most recent statewide state House map favors Republicans by 9 percent

Their most recent statewide Congressional map favors Republicans by 2 percent

The Commission is tasked with drawing fair maps, that undo political gerrymandering. Their maps need significant adjustments across the state to be considered fair. If adopted, these plans would create a Republican-controlled legislature for the next decade.

Time for public comment will be provided at the beginning of every meeting this week.

Please note: During the meeting on Friday, the MICRC voted to limit public comment to 1 minute for each speaker.
