IRC Blocking Public Input – Sign the Petition!
The Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) has provided mapping software that is unusable by the general public. The process of drawing new district lines includes public input. The public cannot give input on the maps with this unusable tool the IRC has provided.
Without public input, which is required by law, this is not a fair and transparent process.
Our friends at Democrats of the Red Rocks have started a petition demanding a change in the IRC process for taking public comment and making the comments available to public. Please sign!
Training on Dave’s Maps
The Intertribal Council of Arizona is hosting a training on an alternative mapping tool that may be useful for public input. The training is next Monday at 2:00 on Zoom.
The IRC Grid Map has been uploaded to Dave’s Redistricting App and should be visible in a public folder.
Prep for IRC Public Hearings
The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) is holding public hearings this week through October 7th.
The IRC issued its Grid Maps last week, opening up a 23 day public comment period. This Saturday is the first hearing near us – in Prescott. The last hearing on Thursday, October 7 will include sites in Flagstaff and Kayenta. In Flagstaff, we’ll again be at the High Country Conference Center with the hearing beginning at 4 pm. (Here’s the full statewide schedule.)
The Arizona Democratic Party urges you to attend a Zoom info session before attending a public hearing. Sign up here.
Last Chance to Sign for AZ Voting Rights and Fair Taxation
We are into the last 4 days to sign referenda petitions.
Build Back Better Status
All 50 Democratic votes plus Vice President Harris will be required for Dems to deliver on their 2020 campaign promises.
This topic is scripted by our Legislative Committee in this week’s Federal Alert.
Please take action!
Tomorrow is the Last Day for SCMs to Return Proxies
In deference to the Women’s March (next story), the Arizona Democratic Party changed the date of its State Committee Meeting from October 2 to September 25. If you are a state committee member, check your email for notice of this change and a link to register or give a proxy. Questions should be addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you registered for October 2, you will need to RE-REGISTER for September 25. Proxies should also be mailed to that email address.
For all Democrats: The Resolutions Committee has recommended that the full State Committee adopt two resolutions. Please read these and if you have questions or want to voice your position, contact one of our Coconino County State Committee Members. Our County Chair, Ann Heitland, attended the Resolutions Committee Meeting where these proposals were presented and the committee’s vote recommending them occurred. Please feel free to contact her if you have questions. There will also be voting on by-law amendments.
September 22nd – Proxy forms are due
September 22nd – Agenda and ZOOM link will be sent out
September 25th, 9:00 AM – Meeting registration closes
September 25th, 10:00 AM – Meeting is called to order
Women’s March – Flagstaff
The Supreme Court’s Texas abortion decision ignited a nationwide fire. Our volunteers are working with others in the County to organize one of the hundreds of events that will take place on October 2. Please share information about the Flagstaff rally with your friends. Our PCs and Volunteers will be there registering voters!
Looking for a perfect gift for your favorite Coconino Dem? Check out our new tee shirts and other gear. A limited supply of tee shirts will be available for purchase at the County Fair. Online orders are usually delivered in 7 days.
