One the Virginia Grassroots highest ranked issue is that of Campaign Finance Reform. As many of you know, Virginia is one of a handful of states that allows unlimited donations (with no restrictions on their use) from corporations and individuals to candidates running in state races. This means that it is money, and not the voice of the people, who determine the governing of our state. Remember this happens every year. What can you do?
CALL TO ACTION: The second meeting of the legislative study committee on campaign finance reform (CFR) will be held on September 17th. The members of the committee need to hear from Virginians that this is a priority issue. Your voices make a difference. You can provide simple messages as written testimony for the meeting (submit messages here).Don’t know what to say? American Promise has pre-drafted messages in this google document. You can mix and match. Only a few clicks to submit your message here. Plus you can send the same message around to the committee members (contact list in the document) and to your legislator! 3 in one! Just cut and paste. Check out how easy it is!
Check out this podcast, The Influence of Money in Politics: Why It Must End Now with Jeff Clements, the President of American Promise.
