PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AND SEE HOW YOU CAN HELP INDIVISIBLE’S “FOR THE PEOPLE PROJECT,” A NATIONWIDE CAMPAIGN TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY
If we are going to remake our democracy into one that works for the people and achieves all of our progressive priorities—like affordable healthcare, a green new deal, a pathway to citizenship for all immigrants, and economic and racial justice—we need our members of Congress to use the majority that we built to defend our democracy. But there’s something about a sharp letter to the editor in a hometown paper that can really get under the skin of the most powerful lawmaker. INDIVISIBLE NATIONAL – DEADLINE FOR DEMOCRACY
Click above link to download document sent by Indivisible National June 14. It’s a couple of days late, so some of the events have already occurred, but we thought it would still be good to share with our members. It outlines Indivisible’s best assessment of where we stand on getting the For the People Act through the Senate, why we think that June and July are absolutely crucial, and what you can do about it.

FAIR FIGHT – TEXTING CAMPAIGN TO PASS S.1
Fair Fight, the group founded by Stacey Abrams, is starting a campaign to pass S1, For The People Act to fight voter suppression. They plan to send out over 10 million texts to get voters to contact their senators. This will be a multi-state endeavor.
It is good to get trained by them. They may not offer training and admission to their texting corps later on. They use Slack and a texting website called Impactive.

SECURE ELECTIONS NETWORK (SEN) – WEBINAR, WED, JUNE 23, 1 PM
Local News, Democracy, and the 2020 Elections:
As the local news crisis accelerates, shady news networks fill the voids left behind
A weakened local news ecosystem is corrosive to democracy. In its absence, government transparency, political competition, and voter turnout suffers. We are currently at a critical moment in the evolution—or devolution—of both the quality and quantity of local journalism. All the while, 2020 proved to be a watershed year for newsroom cutbacks throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As the U.S. local news industry contracts, a vast array of political “news” networks have emerged.
This webinar will provide an overview as to how “slimy” manipulation of trust in local news played out in the 2020 elections in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. It will also dive into its broader implications for the future of fair elections and an informed American democracy.

POSTCARD WRITING FOR VOTER REGISTRATION IN COLORADO CD 3
Given Congressional redistricting required by the census and Republican control of the process in numerous states, it will be a real challenge to retain Democratic control of Congress in 2023 in order to support President Biden and our Democratic policies.
Oahu Democrats intend to continue our efforts to support Democrats in competitive districts. We have begun to assist voter registration efforts in Colorado CD 3 where we have a chance of defeating a particularly distasteful Republican next year.
In 2020 gun extremist Lauren Boebert (R) won her first term in a district that was once Democratic. CD 3 is diverse, geographically extensive, sparsely populated district, which covers most of western Colorado. Turnout will be crucial to defeating Boebert in 2022 before she has time to entrench herself. Winning means mobilizing new voters and outraged Democrats in unprecedented numbers. We are working with the Field Team 6 voter registration program in a postcard campaign to register likely Democrats.
If you are willing to help this effort by addressing and sending 25 or 50 or more postcards, please contact me during the next few days and I will bring to you a packet of postcards, a mailing list, and instructions.

SIERRA CLUB HAWAI’I – WRITE CONGRESS ASKING THEM TO SHUT DOWN RED HILL
Recent data shows that the fuel leaked from the Red Hill facility on May 6 did in fact reach the environment, despite the Navy’s claims that the fuel was “properly collected by the fuel contamination system”. This latest leak and subsequent data—on top of almost 80 years of fuel releases totalling nearly 200,000 gallons of fuel—demonstrates that the Navy is unable to deliver on its promises to protect our water from their fuel and the tanks need to be drained and the fuel relocated away from drinking water and other natural resources.
The Navy is choosing to make the least expensive, least protective “upgrades” to the Red Hill tanks and is not considering relocating the fuel as an immediate option. Oʻahu’s drinking water and public and environmental health is too important to keep the tanks where they are in similar conditions.
Hawaii’s congressional delegation has the power and means to require the Navy to relocate the fuel. We need your help to urge them to make it happen.
