Roosevelt-Kennedy Success!

We did it!  With an exhausting 21 days of action, our Roosevelt-Kennedy Committee exceeded its fundraising goal. Meeting our goal allowed us to post an advertisement for one of the jobs we had planned to fill contingent on a successful event. Now that we’ve raised even more than planned, our Executive Committee will expand our plans for this key building year. THANK YOU to all of our donors!

Earth Day!

While it’s true that every day should be a day we respect and protect our world; for 51 years now, we have set aside a day in order to pause and honor our home with special consideration and gratitude. The Coconino County Democratic Party invites you to join us for an afternoon of planet-friendly presentations and entertainment. We will be hosting local organizations and groups that care about our planet for a ‘virtual tabling’.

Work is being done on many fronts in our community to address issues such as plastic waste, sustainable water use, and carbon-neutral living. People young and old are speaking up against uranium mining and fracking, using their voice to protect our sacred Peaks, and putting smart money behind building sustainable energy infrastructures. Find out more from short presentations by those with boots on the ground in our county. Play a fun environment-themed trivia game. Maybe you’ll even get lucky and get called to receive one of our eco-friendly giveaways!

Join us Thursday, April 22nd starting at 4:30/5:30MDT and help us make this a beautiful day for the Earth!

Earth Week!

Surrounding Earth Day, we’re focusing on legislative and administrative initiatives that Democrats are undertaking to protect Mother Earth.

To start, Marie Sansone – Chair of our Platform Committee — has written a piece highlighting an Executive Order that President Biden issued way back on January 27, just one week after his inauguration.

30 x 30: Biden’s Bold Conservation Plan

Watch our website throughout the week for more news about climate and environmental action. Besides the news, we’ll be asking you to make some calls and write some emails to advocate for Mother Earth.

Awards!

Part of the annual Roosevelt-Kennedy event is always the presentation of the Eleanor Roosevelt Award. The Party presents this award annually to members of our community whose work and service to the people of Coconino County embody the ideals of Eleanor Roosevelt.  This year we had four outstanding nominees: Nancy Branham, Sharon Edgar, Dan Jacoby and Traci Fulkerson (nominated together), and Ann Johnson.  Please read about them!   With such outstanding nominees, the Executive Committee faced a tough choice. But our Ex Com is always ready to make tough decisions. The award was given to Sharon Edgar, a quiet but amazingly effective volunteer whom every Democratic candidate should want on their team.

Our Chair took the opportunity during the final live hour of RK to present a Chair’s Award to First-Vice Chair Aubrey Sonderegger. Chair’s Awards are given intermittently to party members who go to extraordinary lengths in service to the party. Aubrey certainly fits that bill. Most recently, she has been the instigating force behind our Latinx and Indigenous Voter Committees, she has served as Chair of the Roosevelt-Kennedy Fundraising Drive, and this week she is teaming up to organize the Earth Day Virtual Tabling. She has been one of our most effective Regional Captains since 2018. Prior to being elected First Vice-Chair in December, Aubrey served as Secretary of the party from January 2019.  Thank you, Aubrey, for your outstanding service!
