ACTIONS

Tell your Rep. to cosponsor H.R. 6 – The “American Dream and Promise Act of 2021.

https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/03/15/thurs-3-15-tell-your-rep-to-cosponsor-h-r-6-the-american-dream-and-promise-act/
The House is expected to vote this week on two bills that would advance part of President Joe Biden’s immigration agenda, creating a path to citizenship to undocumented “DREAMers” who came to the US as children, farmworkers, and immigrants with temporary humanitarian protection, H.R. 6 and H.R. 1603 – Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2021.
We thought at first that this was just going to be a repeat of our H.R. 6 action from 2019. However, it’s more complicated. Immigration groups have asked that “criminalization bars” be removed from the legislation, bars that don’t appear in Biden’s US Citizenship Act of 2021, which is currently on hold.
Therefore, we’re asking you to thank our representatives (Brownley and Carbajal) for cosponsoring the legislation at the same time we’re asking them to remove language the unfairly penalizes youth of color who’ve faced a racist criminal justice system.(Good explanation of the current state of immigration bills here: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2021/3/12/22321668/house-immigration-reform-dream-promise-farm-worker)
As for H.R. 1603 – Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2021, Carbajal has cosponsored, Brownley has not.  When calling their respective offices, add a “please support” or a “thank you” as applicable.

  • Rep. Julia Brownleyemail, (CA-26): DC (202) 225-5811, Oxnard (805) 379-1779, T.O. (805) 379-1779
  • or Rep. Salud Carbajalemail. (CA-24): DC (202) 225-3601, SB (805) 730-1710 SLO (805) 546-8348
  • Who is my representative?: hq-salsa.wiredforchange.com

The “H.R. 1/S.1 – For the People Act” is now in the Senate! EMAIL your senators and join in the outreach campaigns!

According to the Brennan Center, “state lawmakers have carried over, prefiled, or introduced 253 bills with provisions that restrict voting access in 43 states.” The GOP has openly admitted they can’t win if they play fair with voters, and even if they squeal “states’ rights”, we know from their lawsuits and electoral vote shenanigans on Jan. 6, that GOP senators don’t care about those either. We need a level playing field and real guardrails against another corrupt leader, and that’s H.R.1/S.1 – For the People Act. Keep calling your senators, ask your friends and family to call theirs, and join in the listed campaigns to get this bill through the Senate. https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/03/10/wed-3-10-21-the-h-r-1-s-1-for-the-people-act-is-now-in-the-senate-call-your-senators-and-join-in-the-outreach-campaigns/

Senator Feinstein, Please Vote to End this Filibuster! – Sign Petition

“This is a democracy issue!” EMAIL corporations who fund voter suppression.

https://indivisibleventura.org/2021/03/08/monday-3-8-this-is-a-democracy-issue-call-out-corporations-who-fund-politicians-supporting-voter-suppression/
We’ve included CEO contact information and talking points for corporations who fund voter suppression legislation. Email them or write them a postcard! We don’t care what they say on their websites. We don’t care how many get-out-the-vote videos they put out. We don’t care if they encourage their employees to help at polling places. Funding racist legislation and legislators, both in GA and across the country – that is their true face. Call them out.
BE AWAREWhite Supremacist signs like this are appearing in our county. If you’re able to safely remove them, please do so. Quick removals let the posters know that this community won’t stand for this. Otherwise, note their location and call your local city’s graffiti removal staff.
