NEW CIVIL RIGHTS/ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION – Stop the literal destruction of sacred landWe don’t put freeways through churches. Why allow a mine under Oak Flat? Call/Email your legislators – Protect established sacred land from corporate abuse. Information and minimal script here. (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/22/tues-12-22-we-dont-put-freeways-through-churches-why-allow-a-mine-under-oak-flat/)

NEW POLITICAL ACTION – “YES” on $2000,” NO” on 3-Martini lunches- COVID ASSISTANCE: UPDATE: Oh, what a wild ride this is! What Trump did the other night was to either accidentally or deliberately confuse the scope of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 202, which consists of the normal budget for all the agencies, and the specific funding for COVID. Right now, while we’re working on a formal action, call your legislators and say “YES” to $2000 checks for Americans (this has been a ferocious year), and “NO” to the permanent 3-martini-lunch breaks for corporatists. If anybody is getting to write off food costs, it should be our front line workers, teachers, medical workers, firefighters and the like. They gotta eat too.
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Rep./Sen [___] to know that for once, I agree with Trump – people need $2000 checks. Also, a big “NO” to that 3-martini-lunch tax deduction. Corporations already got too much in the CARES Act.

SPECIAL TODAY!: A RANT FROM OUR FACEBOOK FEED! Today we saw this article about ANOTHER mass and mask-less caroling event in Thousand Oaks. – (https://abc7.com/kirk-cameron-caroling-thousands-oaks-covid-19-coronavirus/8989700). AAAUGH!!!! We’ve attached a video (https://youtu.be/2u5bjhobc4A) made by Ventura County doctors to educate us about the vaccine, one more task for these exhausted professionals. We hear reports from the front lines as to what’s happening in our healthcare facilities and yes, we’ll do anything to not to end up burdening them further through our own carelessness or denial. So here’s our rant. If you meet denialism or similar nonsense in your social media, meet it head on. Resistance starts at home.

“What we see here appears to be the trappings of religious observance, gift-wrapped in simmering resentment at the sacrifices required by this pandemic, and tied off with a bow of imagined persecution.
We’re not religious experts, but these repeated gatherings appear to be contrary to the spirit behind this Christian holiday, which celebrates the birth of a refugee child, who during his brief life, fought for the poor and the powerless, and who worked to heal the sick.
”What would Jesus do?” Not this.
Guessing He’d be at a hospital. If He couldn’t cure every patient outright, he’d be hooking up drip feeds, putting fleecy socks on patients’ feet, holding the hands of the dying, and comforting families by ZOOM. Or maybe He’d be quietly changing sheets, cleaning rooms and sterilizing masks for the nurses, making their lives easier and safer.
Or maybe He’d be at a food bank, handing out food to the hungry, cash for the desperate, blankets to the cold and toys for the kids. Or at the border, filling out asylum forms for refugees force to flee to a strange country for safety, much like his own family.
Or maybe He‘d just stay home, as our doctors and nurses have pleaded for us to do, taking joy in knowing that this sacrifice keeps them, as well as friends and family safer.
All of us, believers or not, have an opportunity to participate in some way in the spirit of this season. To imagine what He would do, right here, right now, and to emulate it as best as we can. But for those who are joining superspreader activities, from close-packed caroling to mask-less store “invasions”, ask them “Seriously. Whom do you serve?”

CONTINUING ENVIRONMENTAL COMMENTSThe Gwich’in Nation needs our help. The first action is the continuation of this week’s call-a-day actions. – LAST DAY FOR PART2! The new PART 2 of this action is helping to get the attention of the CEO and others in Liberty Mutual. “Stop-the-Money-Pipeline” provides background and instructions on how to help here: BOTH actions now conveniently packed together for your enjoyment here: (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/18/fri-12-18-the-liberty-mutual-call-out-action-for-the-arctic-national-wildlife-refuge-now-comes-in-two-2-exciting-parts/)

THERE’S BEEN A MISTAKE!!! Email Newsom and spread the word to your social circle. Calculations have been made and we’re never going to get to a carbon-free 2045 unless we move up the switchover to 100% clean cars to 2030, NOT 2035. Plus, frontline communities that have disproportionately endured the harms of Big Oil for decades shouldn’t have to wait another 5 years for the first benefits of clean mobility and good-paying green jobs that this transition can bring. (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/17/thurs-12-17-carbon-neutrality-by-2045-ca-has-to-move-faster/)

CONTINUING CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIONThis is a horrible Christmas season for a lot of families, some now being able to afford enough food for their kids, much less presents. But it could be worse. Make 5 calls to protect +20 kids and their families from being deported. An alert reader noted a typo on a phone number and a stuffed mailbox, so we went back and re-called every number to see what adjustments needed to be made. The USCIS agent’s mailbox is taking messages again. We’ve also adjusted the minimum script slightly to make our role in calling more clear to staffers.Second time calling, we added more personal notes to the call. This is the holiday season. How can we send kids and their families back to a homeland so dangerous, they had to leave with what they could carry? Journalists are just starting to tabulate the murders of those who were sent back, those who couldn’t meet the Trump administration’s cruel new asylum requirements. The possible harm to these children who came to us for safety is a crime beyond measure. What kind of people are we? Have we learned nothing since we turned the St. Louis away in 1939, send hundreds of Jewish refugees to their deaths?Scripts and contacts here: (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/16/wed-12-16-biggest-gift-you-can-give-this-holiday-season-call-congress-to-stop-ice-from-deporting-detained-children/)

CONTINUING POLITICAL ACTIONSWRITE TO THOSE SEDITIOUS SCOUNDRELS who signed on to the criminal/Texas State AG’s lawsuit and tell them to resign. Pull out your patriotic or kitty-playing-with-yarn postcards and warm up your phone. Target those from your own state or try to get the whole collection. (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/11/friday-12-11-fight-back-write-back-call-the-cowards-out/)

DC STATEHOOD and BAD HOUSE RULES: Seriously, DC Statehood would be one of the most BLM-positive events that could happen. Action #1: Tell your representative to get rid of the “Motion to Recommit” and the “PayGo” rules. This sounds weird, but there’s a really great video to explain it and it’s surprisingly important.Action #2: Tell your legislators that it’s time for D.C. statehood. Seriously. Excellent VOX video lays it out, along with a written post from Indivisible. Post for both actions here: (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/04/friday-action-wrap-up-d-c-statehood-and-house-rules/)

COVID INFORMATION Two of our great local doctors take time out to explain the vaccine and answer common questions, like “Do I still need to wear a mask after I get it?,” “Do I need to get the vaccine if I’ve already had COVID?” and “Can the vaccine give me COVID?” Please share with your social circles. Video link here: (https://youtu.be/2u5bjhobc4A)

CHARITABLE OPPORTUNITIES! We have a whole page of them, including food and toy dropoffs, for those in need or for those who can help. (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/11/23/giving-and-receiving-during-this-pandemic-season/)If we’ve missed one, please contact us at indivisibleventura@gmail.com – Put “CHARITY” in the subject line.
