So it’s Thursday, and Indivisible Ventura’s thermometer has officially risen to “mad,” way above yesterday’s “cranky.”
This is the last day of the Census, now officially politicized due to Supreme Court shenanigans. States that were hit hard with COVID, like New York, only got 64% of their people counted, and Puerto Rico, who basically got a couple rolls of paper towels tossed to them after Hurricane Maria, only got 34%. Fingers crossed on lawsuits overturning this whole corrupt debacle when Trump is out of office.
Tonight, ABC is hosting Biden’s town hall. Tonight was actually supposed to be the second presidential debate, but 45 chickened out from a format where he could be muted at will. However, NBC, completely forgetting mainstream media’s mea culpa for giving him free coverage in 2016, is doing exactly that again, by not only give him his own town hall, but at the EXACT SAME TIME tonight as Biden’s. A former executive VP for NBC News gave us their phone number is mad too. She gave us their phone number- (212) 664-4444 and a facebook friend came up with email firstname.lastname@example.org, NBCNewsMediaRelations@nbcuni.com, Global.Head.News@nbcuni.com, Managing.Editor@nbcuni.com, Gregg.Birnbaum@nbcuni.com, Tim.Perone@nbcuni.com, email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, TodayStories@nbcuni.com, email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, NBCNewsMediaRelations@nbcuni.com(Whether you watch or not, turn on all your TVs to channel 7 tonight!)
OK, this news item was frankly hilarious. GOP senators, who have been slowly killing the ACA every which way they can, now want to be re-elected. So they are trying to convince us that the Supreme Court will “definitely-mostly-unlikely-probably” not rule against healthcare for millions of Americans, no matter who’s on the courts.
(https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/15/senate-republicans-obamacare-429491) Surely this will come as a surprise to the lawyers working on the Texas case! We’ve got a script for people to share with constituents in red-states: Double-dog-dare their senators – stop wasting taxpayer money, and force their compatriots in Texas and the 17 other states behind this lawsuit to drop their case before the election and walk away. Put up or shut up, gentlemen! https://www.healthinsurance.org/blog/2019/07/26/12-ways-the-gop-sabotaged-obamacare/

Update on the fake ballot boxes – CNN reported that the CA GOP refuses to comply with the “cease and desist” order. https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/14/politics/california-republicans-ballot-drop-boxes-cease-and-desist/index.html It’s seriously waaaay past time to start throwing well-dressed behinds in jail for contempt, as well as for breaking state laws. Back here in Ventura…”crickets” from our own district attorney. Greg Totten, (who is up for re-election in two years) has just endorsed a mini-me Trump impersonator – Mike Garcia, who will presumably benefit from these criminal actions. Take a minute to share your own opinion with Greg and Xavier Becerra, our state’s Attorney General. This is corruption and bullying and we will not stand for it. Write, call, make a stink. OK, now to actual events, other than Biden’s town hall.
6:00 to 7:30, AWARE-LA ( a SURJ Affiliate) is putting on a Thursdays webinar series on “Understanding White Supremacy as a System and Culture.”
7:00-8:30, WP4BL ( another SURJ Affiliate) is putting on a webinar series called “Looking at Male Privilege.”
Since we’re still as mad today as yesterday, we’re repeating this last bit…
In our action “Three things to do today”
(https://indivisibleventura.org/…/wed-10-14-three…/) we’ve added a call to our senators to do what they swore to do in their first act as a legislator – defend the Constitution, which includes, in the Preamble, right up in front because it was so important, “promoting the general welfare.” Those yahoos should be working 24/7 on COVID relief to help Americans who are going hungry and homeless, not working to cement their own power structure.
We’ve posted a signup to become an election volunteer. They’ll help you find the best way to get involved — whether that’s monitoring polling places (from your vehicle, or with proper personal safety equipment), watchdogging social media for disinformation, or reaching out to voters to make sure they know their rights. You’ll connect voters with trained legal professionals who can help them navigate the voting process and cast their ballots safely and securely. Sign up here: https://protectthevote.net/?source=dcusa
Sign up for phonebanking with Indivisiblehttps://act.indivisible.org/signup/2020-phonebank Sign up for a shift making calls to voters in key states to connect them directly and make sure they’re ready to take part in the 2020 election. You can volunteer from anywhere, and they’ll follow up and make sure you have everything you need to contact voters once you sign up. In order to volunteer, folks will need access to a computer or tablet to log in to our remote phonebanking system as well as a phone to actually make the calls.
There are phonebanks and textbanks literally EVERY DAY until the election. Please find some to participate in, either from our top post or here: https://indivisibleventura.org/what-can-i-do-now/ We need to crank this election out, one vote at a time. (Indivisible Ventura voting guide here: tinyurl.com/Ventura-2020-Guide)
Yesterday’s Rogan’s list has a quote from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: “I am angry. We should all be angry. Anger has a long history of bringing about positive change.”
Use your anger for good, people! Write, call, raise a ruckus, shine a hot white light on corruption everywhere, even that happening right here amongst us, (cough, Greg Totten, cough) and vote, vote, vote.
