Hello Indivisibles,

Reminder: our General Meeting is TONIGHT, Monday, Sept. 28th at 7-8:30pm on Zoom (link to the Zoom meeting is HERE). The agenda will include consideration of endorsements for one or more candidates running for an office in Yolo County on November 3. The decision to endorse candidates will be made by a vote of the members of Indivisible Yolo. Each candidate in a competitive race for the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, the Davis City Council, the Woodland City Council, the Davis School Board and the Woodland School Board received an Indivisible Yolo Candidate Survey (an email with links to the candidate responses went out on Saturday to everyone signed up for the Indivisible Yolo newsletter). We hope we’ll have great member turnout to vote on endorsements tonight!

For our advocacy actions this week, we’re calling our Senators to do everything in their power to prevent Trump from filling Justice Ginsburg’s seat. And we’re emailing the Yolo County Board of Supervisors TODAY, on the eve of their budget vote, to ask them to stop jail expansion, stop increasing the DA’s budget, and to demand accountability for the “Community Corrections Partnership” budget. More information below.

Would you like company making calls to representatives or doing the action of the week? Join our Virtual Action Coffee Zoom meeting Monday mornings at 10 am: We’ll talk through Indivisible Yolo’s action of the week, call or email our representatives, talk politics, and stay connected to each other and the work in this challenging time.

Now’s the time to get involved! We have phone banks, text banks, advocacy calls, postcard meetups and more, all online via Zoom. We’re doing more than ever – in spite of the pandemic – as we count down to the most critical election of our lives. Our events are on the Indivisible Yolo calendar here:

Take care, and take action!

P.S. if you have not yet signed up for “Protect the Results”, a coalition of groups (including Indivisible) to mobilize if Trump should contest the results of the election, you can do so HERE.

The General meeting where endorsements will be considered will be TONIGHT, Monday, Sept. 28th at 7-8:30pm by Zoom. You can join by clicking the link HERE.

Action: Tell your Senators – Defend Ginsburg’s Supreme Court Seat!

Sample Call Script for Sen. Harris and Feinstein:
This action comes to us via Indivisible SF:

Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I am a constituent from [CITY/ZIP CODE]. I urge the Senator to do everything in her power to prevent Trump from filling Justice Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat!

Justice Ginsburg’s dying wish was to not be replaced by a Trump appointee. Honor her wish by using every power, method, and tactic at your disposal to keep her seat open until after inauguration day in January. So much is at stake with this nomination: the election, Roe vs Wade, healthcare, and LGBTQ rights to name a few. We certainly hope the Senator can prevail upon at least four Republican senators to hold fast to the precedent they themselves established in 2016. That would only be fair. However, if necessary and effective, please do not hesitate to use hardball tactics such as refusing Unanimous Consent and blocking must-pass legislation.

If Republicans do ram through another ultra-conservative Supreme Court justice to give the extreme right a 5 justice majority, I want the Senator’s commitment to balance the Court in the next Congress by increasing its size to match the number of federal circuit courts as was done in the past.

Action: It’s Yolo County Budget Decision Time- email the Board of Supervisors!

We were alerted via Yolo People Power that at the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, Sept. 29, 9am-12pm, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors will vote on the budget. We’re asking the Supervisors:

  • Stop jail expansion: cancel construction of the Leinberger jail replacement project.
  • Do not increase the District Attorney’s budget over last year’s expenditures.
  • We need transparency and accountability in spending, and representation of those impacted, especially persons with mental illness, in the Community Corrections Partnership Strategic Plan.

EMAIL your brief (<250 words) message before 5 pm on Monday Sept. 28, with “For Public Comment Item 31 County Budget” in subject line to:

Please resend same or expanded messages to each Supervisor in separate emails requesting a response:
