Others are seeing our race for what it is: One of the Democratic Party’s best shots at going on offense.
The Palmetto Insider called us one of the TOP FIVE State House races to watch.
The Statehouse Report lists us as one of the BEST STATE HOUSE RACES for Democrats to expand their foothold in the Lowcountry.
People throughout the community are responding to my positive message of preserving our coast, prioritizing our public schools and protecting our state from the pandemic.
We are less than $10,000 away from meeting our September fundraising goal. If we meet it, I will be able to reach more than 20,000 voters in my district with direct mail, a campaign video and other advertising.
Why this race?
This is an open seat to represent Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms in the State House. The district has been trending blue. U.S. Rep. Joe Cunningham (D-Charleston) carried the district in 2018, and we’ve added 2,000 new voters since then.
We have built an exceptionally strong campaign that is in a great position to win. We have a solid campaign plan and are in need of the resources to fully implement it.
South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Trav Robertson, Jr. recently described me as “the dark horse candidate of the year” for the South Carolina State House. I’m working hard every single day to win this seat.
This is one of the two seats needed to flip the Charleston Legislative Delegation to being majority Democrat.
I am a working dad with a wife and two young children who attend public school. I will fight for our coast, our schools and our health. One of my main motivations for running is to ensure our children, workers and small businesses are not left behind during the pandemic.
I have served our state for the past 14 years, including five years helping improve the justice system in South Carolina’s “Corridor of Shame,” where I created a Violence Against Women Prosecution Team. I recently served a term on the Charleston County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, which manages a MacArthur Foundation Grant to increase the fairness and the effectiveness of our local criminal justice system.
I am solidly pro-choice and would replace a very pro-life legislator. For the past four years, I’ve served on the board of the S.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, an organization committed to improving access to reproductive care statewide.
For my day job, I work as marketing director for a local law firm. I am a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, where I earned my MBA.
I am genuine, driven and ready to work hard for our community and state. I will build consensus where I can and will always be a strong voice for our Lowcountry way of life.
