September 10 Newsletter: Welcome, Senator Harris!

5 mins read

Dear Friends –

Today, Sen. Kamala Harris sat down with Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and Miami Shores Mayor Crystal Wagar for a roundtable discussion with African American leaders at Florida Memorial University. She rightfully called out the lies and the cynicism of Donald Trump, who called COVID a hoax in public, but privately admitted that he knew how dangerous it was. The nearly 200,000 people who have died in our country were our friends, our family and our colleagues, and there is a lot of pain here in Miami-Dade because of his failures.

We have 54 days to go until Election Day, and the work we do between now and then will make the difference in what we know will be a very close race in Florida. We’ve seen some public polls this week that show Joe Biden and Donald Trump in a statistical tie in Florida. We have our work cut out for us.

We have a lot of ways to get involved right now:

Democratic turnout this August increased by nearly 70% from four years ago. And Vote-By-Mail is one of the big reasons why. Now more than ever, it’s important to keep the momentum going and deliver Florida to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and all our Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. Help encourage voters to request a vote-by-mail ballot by October and mail-in early or drop off at early voting locations drop-boxes. Sign up here:

Want to be a Neighborhood Leader?
We need volunteers willing to help distribute yard signs, postcards, and coordinate volunteers activities in their community, along with folks capable of driving materials to volunteers. Join our first call to get folks in action. We’ll be meeting every week. Sign up here:

Join one our Early Voting Site Teams
Join an early voting site team to coordinate with volunteers from your neighborhood. Practicing safety guidelines, we will be staffing early voting sites every day to encourage voters to vote Democrat as they walk in to cast their ballot. This is a HUGE undertaking and we’re going to need all the help! Sign up here:

Join the Voter Protection Team:
The voter protection team is looking for lawyers, problem solvers and patriotic people to help protect the vote during Early Voting and on Election Day. There are remote and in-person opportunities:

In the News:

Christopher Benjamin’s late wife caught COVID-19 while in the hospital for late-stage cancer

We extend our deepest condolences to Representative-Elect Christopher Benjamin for the loss of his wife, Carleen Aneesa Nelson-Benjamin. Rep-Elect Benjamin made history just last month when he was elected as Florida’s first Muslim state legislator. We are so sorry for this painful loss and extend our deepest condolences to him and his family.

Become a Sustaining Donor

I can’t thank all of our sustaining donors enough for stepping up and pitching in a small amount each month. These sustaining donations allow us to plan the programs that will drive up voter turnout across our county. We couldn’t run our field program or our digital program without your support.

Can you become a sustaining donor of $7$10, or $20.20 today?

We know this is a tough time for many of us right now, so please know we appreciate you staying involved in any way that you can. Thank you for all you do.
