This doesn’t seem like a long post, but there are 3 actions to take for the first post and 7 for the second one – things you can do today and through the end of the week. Almost all can be done with a phone or computer.
What’s happening in our country now is by turns terrifying, exhilarating, and purposefully disorienting, but pace yourselves. Do not get burned out.

Now, some news. Because of the huge upswing in COVID cases in Oxnard, the Oxnard College Community Marketplace has once again shut down their swap meet. Which means that Swap Meet Justice won’t be able to help people this month, which is a huge disappointment. (for everyone except my husband, who’s getting another 4 weeks to work on our sneeze guards, as we currently only have 4 of our final count of 8…)
However, our Swap Meet Justice Coalition is also doing census outreach. So Nan from CLUE has asked if there are any volunteers who could help distributing (yard-type) Census signs to churches, businesses and homeowners who agree to have them. Volunteers would only have to deliver (unless they want to do more!). If you can help, please contact her at clue@cluevc.org.

People dismissed comparisons to the conditions that led to Hitler’s takeover, or the those that allowed Pinochet’s brutal regimeof 17 years. But with people being kidnapped off the streets, and Trump announcing his power to ignore Congress, we are on historically perilous ground. Yale professor Jason Stanley, whose new book is titled “How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them.” states, “Are there fascist forces in America today that are ascendant and threatening our status as a democracy? Is Trumpism a fascist, social, and political movement? I think it is.”
Time to get to work.
