THE WEEK IN REVIEW
Alert: Election Day is this Tuesday
Many municipalities and counties have local elections coming up this Tuesday. Remember that so much of what affects our daily lives happens on the local level. Take simple precautions and have a safe and healthy Election Day – wear a mask, wash your hands before and after voting, bring your own pen/pencil, stay six feet apart, and follow the guidance of election workers. Polls are open from 6AM-7PM.
Find your polling place at the top of our Show Me Votes page.
Unelected Gov. Parson Recommends Just Not Voting
After months of mismanagement of this pandemic in our state, Gov. Parson said in his daily briefing that if folks are worried about the coronavirus, they should just not go vote. Missourians of all stripes have been calling for expanded voting rights including no-excuse absentee voting – a bill that would make this a reality is currently sitting unsigned on the governor’s desk.
Take precautions on Tuesday and remember his words in November when he’s up for election.
Medicaid Expansion Ballot Initiative Moved to August Election
In a last, desperate attempt of the Missouri GOP to try not to lose their fourth ballot initiative in a row, Gov. Parson has moved Medicaid Expansion from the November election to the lower turnout August 4th election. We have less than 70 days to go, but just as Right to Work was defeated in August 2018 with an astonishing 62% of the vote, we will come together, we will not sit this out, and we will pass Medicaid Expansion.
Chip in toward the fight, if you can!
Missouri Democrats Expanding the Statewide Coordinated Campaign
We’re putting together a great team to run our statewide field program under the direction of our new Coordinated Campaign Director Austin Lyle. Know folks who might be good fits for Organizing, Operations, and Data? Send ‘em our way.
State Convention is Just Around the Corner!
We’re holding Missouri’s 2020 Democratic State Convention virtually with a live, digital Welcome Night event on Friday, June 12th and the full meetings and caucuses on June 13th. We’ll be joined by several guest speakers, candidates, and elected officials!
As of right now, the Democratic National Convention is planned to go forward in-person in Milwaukee the week of August 17th, but importantly, all delegates will be able to vote even if they are not physically present. Sign up to stay informed on state and national convention news!
Have you filled out your Census?
Filling out your census is the single most important thing you can do to ensure fair representation for your community for the next decade. It takes only TWO minutes online or over the phone at https://my2020census.gov/. Remember, we lose or gain seats based on these numbers, so please check with your friends and family and share the link above. Be counted!
