With Fear For Our Democracy. I Dissent.

The Threat is Real

Indivisible was born in late 2016 as an anti-Trump movement designed to protect our democracy. The Supreme Court ruling handed down Tuesday allows Trump – should he win reelection – to wield power like a dictator and use the levers of government to defy the law and attack political rivals. The threat to our democracy is real.

Let this be a stark reminder that we must get back to basics and commit to doing everything in our power to prevent another Trump presidency. This means moving past recent debate debacles and policy disagreements and fully committing to re-electing President Biden – who is the presumptive Democratic nominee – this November.

Democrats must also flip the House and hold the Senate. The road to a Democratic majority runs through New York and we have a House seat here in Westchester (NY-17) that we need to flip from red to blue by electing Mondaire Jones. It will take an all hands on deck effort to reclaim this seat.

Indivisible Westchester and our partners will be working this summer on developing ways to mobilize volunteers to achieve these goals so we can hit the ground running this fall. In the meantime, you can plug into ongoing efforts below.

Project 2025 Is Terrifying

Even before the Supreme Court decision, extremist Republicans had rolled out their terrifying blueprint for a second Trump administration. As The New Republic notesProject 2025 is “a remarkably detailed guide to turning the United States into a fascist’s paradise.” Project 2025 maps out a “Christian nationalist vision of the United States, one in which married heterosexuality is the only valid form of sexual expression and identity; all pregnancies would be carried to term, even if that requires coercion or death; and transgender and gender-nonconforming people do not exist.”

We need to wake up the electorate and tell them about this plan.

Primary Winners

Congrats to the winners of the June Democratic primary – George Latimer (NY-16), Mary Jane Shimsky (Assembly), and Susan Cacace (DA).

In a closely contested race, former Democratic Rep. Mondaire Jones is at risk of losing the progressive Working Families Party (WFP) line to a little-known Republican, Anthony Frascone. The sudden surge of nearly 200 new WFP voters in Rockland County, believed to have been orchestrated by Republicans, highlights the importance of voter protection and the need to ensure a fair and transparent election in this Lower Hudson Valley battleground in November.

2024 Legislative Session Highlights
The New York State Legislature passed several key election bills aimed at improving election integrity, accessibility, and transparency. Join the NYDLC for an end-of-session debrief to learn more about the election bills that passed this year and what’s next for 2025! July 11th at 6:30 PM  Click HERE to register.

Volunteer to Help Pass the NYERA

The New Yorkers fo Equal Rights campaign is looking for people who are interested in being trained to give presentations at local and regional events, club meetings, and speak to voters at tabling events. If passed, the NY ERA will ban discrimination and codify abortion rights in the state constitution.
