Be a “Difference-Maker”
Your work is showing promise and appreciation. A message from Beth Helfrich, Candidate for NC House District 98
Two weekends ago, I opened my inbox to find a short email. It read, ‘Hi Beth: I’m from VT, phone banking for you. Just want to know how I should be pronouncing your last name.’ Campaigns run at full throttle, but those two sentences gave me pause. Strangers in Vermont, working to support our race in north Mecklenburg County? The following weekend, thanks in part to my new friend in Vermont and the growing infrastructure in Mecklenburg County, we had 45 folks signed up for our first May canvass. That’s the work of groups like yours. And in a race that will break the supermajority — and will likely be decided by a percentage point or less — the investment of folks like you is not just affirming: it will be the difference-maker.
Thank you, Beth
The work we do now is an investment in making sure

The States Project North Carolina

The States Project provides a high return on your investment. State legislative races cost a fraction of Congressional and presidential races, but our support for NC candidates in key races that could break the Republican supermajority has ramifications far beyond the state’s boundaries and for far longer than this election cycle. Breaking the supermajority
- is the first step toward a more representative government in NC,
- is the first step toward ending gerrymandering, which will send more NC Republicans to the U.S. House this November than in 2022,
- will prevent the Republicans from eliminating abortion access in NC,
- will provide Democrats and Independents ways to defend voting rights,
- will energize voters who care about local issues and who will vote all the way to the top of the ticket.

This action is reaching thousands of voters who could be thrown off the voter rolls because they haven’t voted in past elections or have moved and not updated their registration. It has the potential to re-engage voters, providing them with information about how to re-register and get a mail-in ballot. Over 300,000 voters need to be contacted. Want to learn more?
