Learn to Canvass with Confidence: May 21

Canvassing – knocking doors and talking to voters – is the gold standard for getting out the vote where it counts.

Do you feel unsure about the idea of talking to voters door to door? Are you an experienced canvasser, but it’s been a while?

We can all learn to become confident, effective canvassers for the 2024 elections. On the evening of Tuesday, May 21, join us, with host Indivisible Downtown Chicago, for an Indivisible Chicago Alliance training: “Yes, You Canvass.”

From Indivisible Chicago Alliance: With the 2024 Election likely to be decided by a few thousand voters in a handful of swing states, Indivisible Chicago is gearing up to knock doors and talk to voters in Michigan and Wisconsin communities a little over one hour’s drive from Chicago.

To prepare volunteers, we’re offering canvass training for anyone who has never done it before or can just use a refresher. Sign up today to learn what canvassing is all about and how you can make the biggest difference possible in winning the most important election of our lifetime.

SIGN UP. Take part in the in-person “Yes, You Canvass” training Tuesday May 21st,6:30-8:00 pm, hosted by the Indivisible Downtown Chicago chapter in partnership with IC-SS at Grace Place, 637 S Dearborn. You’ll receive more information upon signing up. Register here.

Our Letter Project Continues

Since early April, 28 people have joined our effort to write letters to voters in critical states and to donate stamps. Thank you all!

Late April: our intrepid letter writers at Jimmy’s

This spring, we’ve been holding Vote Forward letter parties at both new and familiar venues: the Nile, Jimmy’s, and coming up: a private community room.

Special Location: Write with Us on May 28

Can you join us to write more letters on Tuesday, May 28, 6:00-8:00 pm? Special location: We’ll meet at the community room of a private residence (address provided when you RSVP).

Thanks to all our writers & stamp donors  – RSVP here

As always, our generous letter leader, Steve Kagan, will bring pens, envelopes, and pre-printed Vote Forward letters for you to personalize to help get out the vote in key states and districts.

At this special location, we’ll serve pizza and soft drinks. Feel free to bring wine, beer, a salad, or a dessert to share if you wish. We encourage you to donate first-class stamps. But the most important thing is to be there!

RSVP here (or email us at Indiv.Chi.South@gmail.com, letting us know you can attend on Tuesday, May 28 and providing your full name and cell number).

Prefer to write at home? You can also print and write letters on your own! Get all the info at Vote Forward.

ICA Calendar: Find Specific Actions to Do

The calendar is a project of the citywide Indivisible Chicago Alliance and is curated by Wendy Posner.

Tell Congress: Publicly Demand a Ceasefire

With nearly 35,000 men, women, and children in Gaza slaughtered by the Israeli military and countless more injured and rendered homeless, national Indivisible continues to call for a ceasefire and full resumption of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, as well as calling for the release of all remaining Israeli hostages.

You can quickly send an email to your members of Congress to tell them to publicly call for a ceasefire, using a form from national Indivisible. The suggested wording is customizable so you can craft the strong message that you wish to express.

Be Informed: Community Resources for All

Since August 2022, over 35,000 desperate adults and families from Venezuela and other countries have arrived in Chicago, bused here by Texas GOP Governor Abbott.

Meanwhile, longtime residents of Chicago’s existing South Side and West Side communities continue to be denied the vital resources that wealthier communities take for granted.

Tensions are understandably high, but some community organizations are working together to see that everyone in Chicago can survive and thrive. See these articles about Black and Latino communities uniting to secure resources for all:
