Tell Sen. Durbin: Send Subpoena to Crow!

It’s time we find out how much influence both Leonard Leo and Harlan Crow have been able to buy on the Supreme Court.

From national Indivisible: On April 11, Senator Durbin finally issued a subpoena for one of Clarence Thomas’s right-wing buddies, Leonard Leo.

This has been a welcome (but long-overdue) next step into investigating corruption on the Supreme Court, since Senator Durbin and the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to authorize the subpoenas for both Leonard Leo and Harlan Crow last November.

But Senator Durbin can’t stop there. He needs to issue the subpoena for Harlan Crow as soon as possible.

Contact Senator Durbin

Fill out this form right now to email Senator Durbin.

Let him know that the Supreme Court is in an ethical crisis and he must aggressively pursue an investigation.

Thank him for taking the first step by issuing the subpoena for Leonard Leo, but let him know you expect him to issue the subpoena for Harlan Crow immediately.

Organizations & Opportunities

📣 Indivisible Chicago-South Side shares information and actions from other organizations on issues important in our country, state, city, and communities.

Get Trained: Register Voters at Cook County Jail

From Chicago Votes: While voter turnout for the primary elections was generally low, turnout in the jail exceeded that of the rest of the city. Early voting took place inside Cook County Jail (CCJ) the first two weekends in March, with 24% of people detained in the jail casting a ballot compared to 20% of the general Chicago population.

Now through November, Chicago Votes will continue its ballot education sessions and voter registration in the jail. If you are interested in registering voters in the jail, become a CCJ Votes volunteer in a few steps.

Start bycompleting the fully online, self-paced Cook County Jail Votes training. Once you complete the training course, you will begin receiving monthly CCJ Votes opportunities in your inbox.

Report: Investing in Pretrial Justice in IL

From The Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice: While the end of money bond is what caught headlines, the Pretrial Fairness Act went far beyond ending wealth-based jailing—it transformed the state’s pretrial legal system.

In the six months since the Pretrial Fairness Act took effect, multiple state agencies have called for additional resources to support the law’s implementation.

The Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice is excited to share our new report, Investing in Pretrial Justice in Illinois: A Vision for Supporting Communities After the End of Money Bond, which lays out a framework for holistically addressing these requests while centering the communities most harmed by the money bond system.
