  • SUPPORT UKRAINE, EARLY AND OFTENThe human and strategic costs of the MAGA House’s refusal to pass a new aid bill for Ukraine are considerable, and those costs fall on the Ukrainian people, on American taxpayers, on our allies, and on the future of democracy itself. We’re here arguably because of the Trump/Republican Party’s admiration for Russian President Putin, who has positioned “his country as a symbol of Christian conservatism and resistance to LGBTQ rights, while portraying himself as an embodiment of masculine strength,” which appeals to populist conservatives. It’s important to remember that Putin is a leader who jails his opponents, launches wars of aggression, is implicated in assassinations, interferes in US elections, and more. The Ukraine aid story continues developing, as House Republicans newly consider bringing a bill to the floor, while also threatening to oust their speaker and bring Congress to a stand-still. Let’s tell our Members of Congress of both parties that it’s long past time that Ukraine received US aid, and we want it done now. In fact, let’s contact them daily until they get the job done.
  • EASIER ACCESS TO HOUSING FOR THOSE CAUGHT IN UP THE CRIMINAL LEGAL SYSTEM
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued a notice of proposed rule-making to make it easier for those with criminal records to access HUD-assisted housing. Because of the systemic racism in our criminal legal system, screening criteria that unfairly deny people access to housing because of a history of conviction or arrest have long disproportionately burdened people of color. Beyond issues of bias, the barriers to accessing housing can encourage recidivism. This change is supported by housing advocates like the National Low Income Housing CoalitionLet’s join them in submitting comments in favor of this proposal here.

  • STAND UP FOR THE ACA (OBAMACARE)As Trump promises to repeal the Affordable Care Act, a new report shows how the Obama/Democratic signature legislation had defied all the doomsday Republican rhetoric. “Not only has the ACA expanded high-quality and affordable health insurance to more than 40 million people, it aided the economic recovery from the Great Recession, eliminated the worst abuses of the health insurance industry, helped address long-standing racial and economic disparities in health care, and reduced the long-term federal deficit by $2 trillion.” The ACA has not, of course, solved all of America’s health care problems (example), but repealing it will certainly not make things better. Let’s read and share the report (download from this page), and let’s tell our Members of Congress to add to the good that the ACA has done by passing President Biden’s budget.
  • VOTE, VOTE, VOTELet’s register to vote, check our registration, and get election reminders at TurboVote!
