Biden Decisively Wins Missouri Democratic Party’s Party-Run Presidential Primary

With nearly 20,000 total votes cast in the Missouri Democratic Party’s party-run presidential preference primary, President Biden won with 85.3 percent of the vote, winning 61 of 64 pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

“The Missouri Democratic Party congratulates President Biden on his decisive victory in our party-run presidential preference primary last weekend. President Biden’s Administration has been focused on investing in the people and communities who need it most and has a long list of accomplishments to tout heading into November. From capping the cost of insulin at $35 for Missouri seniors to the over $2.8 billion in funds for infrastructure projects in Missouri communities, including $122 million to replace Chester Bridge in Perry County, $31 million to replace the bridge over Table Rock Lake, and $7.8 million to repave MO 53 in Butler County from Business 67- Route 25, Missourians are seeing the real impacts of the Biden Administrations’ investment on their daily lives,” said Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan.

“In spite of the attack on our voting rights by the Republican State Legislature, turnout in the Missouri Democratic Party’s party-run presidential primary exceeded that of the Republican caucus event, and Democrats used this election as an opportunity to start organizing early and generated grassroots enthusiasm across the state as we head into the 2024 election cycle. Over 450 Missouri Democrats volunteered to organize a statewide election with nearly 100 in-person voting locations to ensure as many of their neighbors could cast their vote for their preferred Democratic nominee for president as possible. Missouri Democrats are fired up and ready to fight in 2024.”

ICYMI: Missouri Democratic Party Receives National Recognition for Successful Candidate Recruitment Efforts

Over 200 Democratic candidates across the state stepped up to run for office in their communities following an incredible recruitment effort organized to support them.

“We are unbelievably proud and excited to see so many strong Democratic candidates decide to run for office and serve their neighbors. Running for office is tough and often thankless, but these Missourians are determined to help leave their communities better than they found them. The dramatic increase in Democratic candidates this election cycle could not have been possible without the tireless organizing and recruitment efforts led by the leadership of the Missouri State House and Senate Democrats, who have committed to investing in building party infrastructure to support candidates across the state,” said Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan.

“Ensuring there is a Democratic candidate on the ballot in districts across Missouri does not happen overnight and requires investing in a strong staff, like our incredible Field Director Alex Johnson, who fielded over 6,000 calls to potential candidates across the state to fill seats until candidate filing officially closed. MO House Democrats have made investing in this kind of infrastructure that operates year-round, not just close to an election, supporting candidates and helping them run professional campaigns, a core piece of our rebuilding strategy and we are thrilled to see it begin to pay off. Democrats are fired up and ready to break the Republican supermajority on our way to take back our state,” added House Democratic Leader Crystal Quade.

Guidance: Missouri Grassroots Voter Registration 2024

The Missouri Democratic Party offers this community guidance to reach voter registration goals over the 2024 election cycle.

Voter Education

Providing an unregistered voter with the information they may not have previously had constitutes voter education. Missouri now offers eligible Missourians the option to register 100% online if they are using a touchscreen phone or tablet.

QR Codes & Links

Providing an unregistered voter with a link to or a QR code they can scan with their personal phone or tablet or they can scan with a provided touch screen device to complete their registration themselves does not constitute a solicitation and does not trigger a chain of custody issue with a voter registration application.

Language and Presentation

To ensure any voter registration effort remains compliant in the voter education lane, voter registration communications will be separated from any other program communications. This will be accomplished as simply as presenting a separate page to an unregistered voter after one learns the voter is unregistered, for example.

Suggested Language

“Did you know that you can register to vote online in seconds using a touch screen? Here is a Link/ QR Code if you’d like to register now.”
