  • INTERESTING POLITICAL FUNDRAISING PLATFORM TO CONSIDERSome of us want to give strategically to Democratic candidates, but we’re not “in the know” about where our money is most needed or will have the greatest impact. Oath is a fundraising platform that rates candidates on various factors, most notably: competitiveness (where just a few votes could tip the election); stakes (where, for example, the race could determine control of a legislature); and financial need (so we’re giving to candidates who really need the money, rather than to those who are in competitive races but are flush with cash). Oath looks at races on the federal, state, and even local level. Let’s read this article and this article to learn more, and let’s explore the Oath website. If we’re intrigued, let’s consider donating through Oath.
  • DON’T BOO. VOTE!Remember this? As long as we have our democracy, it will always be relevant. Let’s register to vote, or if we think we’re registered but want to make sure we’re still on the voter rolls in this time of voter purges, let’s check our voter registration. We can do that, and sign up for election reminders, here.

STATE-SPECIFIC ACTIONS

  • AL, FL, GA, KS, MS, SC, TN, TX, WI, WY—TELL STATE LEGISLATORS TO EXPAND MEDICAIDA reader reminds us: Thanks to Medicaid expansion, 21 million people who were previously uninsured now have health insurance. The program provides federal funds to states so more families can be eligible for Medicaid. Because it’s part of Obamacare, 10 states have refused to expand. We may be at a tipping point, though, when constituent pressure could convince Republicans to expand Medicaid. If we vote in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, or Wyoming, let’s contact our state representatives and urge them to expand Medicaid. We can tell them about the advantagesincluding financial—their voters will experience with Medicaid expansion.
